| Service Pack 1 Problem Like all the other threads, I also cannot install Service Pack 1. I have tried all the methods on the site: support.microsoft.com/kb/947366. There was no point for resolution 1 because it's the only update that appears, I checked the hard disk but no errors showed, and for the file checker, I did two tests. The first test said a file was corrupt and it couldn't fix it, so I did a file check again, and it also said the same thing, but when I look in the log for the second check, it doesn't show any problem, so I assume it was fixed. The memory diagnostic did not show any problems. For the prerequisites, I have both installed, and the third did not apply because I'm using Home Premium, but update KB938371 was installed twice, if that really matters. I'm beginning to give up hope. On the system file checker, on my first test, only these files were corrupt:
Does it really matter if I install SP1? Would other updates come, or does SP1 need to be installed first? And what is this Windows Module Installer that I saw somewhere talking about? If it helps, when I right click the failed install and see what happened, the error details says Code 80041026. Should I try and download the manual pack and try to install it that way? I doubt it's the problem, because it wasn't because of Windows Update. | ||||||||||||

| Re: Service Pack 1 Problem Thanks for replying. I am trying to make downloading the full pack my final resort, because I don't want to wait forever downloading the whole pack, when all I need is three updates in the pack. The pack for my computer is the minimum, 65mb, and I don't want to wait forever to download the whole thing. Is there possibly a way to find out what parts I need in the pack and download them separately? Or do you think that maybe the manual install is probably the one and only solution that may or may not work? |

I would download the standalone version and install it and keep the copy on cd so you dont ever need to downlaod it again. dmex |

The size goes from 65 MB up to the size of SP1 standalone version if you update from scratch and installed only the prerequisite updates. Anyway the advise you gave is the right one and tetraslash should download/install the standalone version. |

| Re: Service Pack 1 Problem I think that it is an issue with laptops, because I've had two of my friends use their desktops and install SP1 completely fine, but my friend that has a unused laptop that's very old tried to install it, and it didn't work. Trust me, my friend that has a desktop, messed with it a lot more than I did, and it still worked for him. Could this be a issue with certain types of computers? Oh, it took me only 8 minutes to download the whole pack so I'll try it. I'll tell you how it goes. Last edited by tetraslash; 05-09-2008 at 07:02 PM. |
