| Newbie Rep Power: 4 ![]() | Problem (probably) with UAC (probably) after update Hi people. I am experiencing a problem. I am really not sure with the cause, the only changes I did were that I uninstalled Office 2007, Installed it again, installed BSplayer and updated... every update (also that additinal ones). The result: when I try to run anything that needs privilegies and gains it by taking ownership, like some installations (Firefox 3) or "Show processes of other users", the warning of UAC appears, it runs command line which just flash. By making a printscreen, I found out it shows done successfully, but nothing else happens. No installation runs, the processes of all users aren't shown... Could anybody help me? Any idea? I'm using Windows Vista Ultimate x64 with slovak interface, and from the time I installed Vista, I have installed all the updates avialable, also that optional ones... Thanx for help to all of you. I hope I chose the right subforum... |

Can you be more specific? UAC and gaining elevated privileges is unrelated to gaining permissions - if you have something that changes permissions on the fly, that in and of itself could be causing problems. Please detail exactly what you are doing and exactly what is going on - screen shots would be beneficial but are not necessary. |

| Newbie Rep Power: 4 ![]() | Re: Problem (probably) with UAC (probably) after update hi.. I've made some screen shots... I hope they will help. I've found 1 more application: LogMeIn asked me for update...and the same problem happened again. But, on the other hand, total commander, when I want to do something that needs administrator privileges, asks me if I want to do it as an administrator, there is the same logo, but UAC appears only for the first time tis option is chosen and this is working... These are the detailed messages of UAC: a) in case of FireFox 3 (I've tried 4 different installer packages, but each did the same) "cmd.exe" /c takeown /f "C:\Users\Admin\AppData\Local\Temp\7zS7437.tmp\setup.exe" && icacls "C:\Users\Admin\AppData\Local\Temp\7zS7437.tmp\setup.exe" /grand administrators:F b) case of processes of all users: "cmd.exe" /c takeown /f "C:\Windows\system32\Taskmgr.exe" && icacls "C:\Windows\system32\Taskmgr.exe" /grand administrators:F c) case of LogMeIn update: "cmd.exe" /c takeown /f "C:\Program Files (x86)\LogMeIn\x64\update\raupdate.exe" && icacls "C:\Program Files (x86)\LogMeIn\x64\update\raupdate.exe" /grand administrators:F d) case of total commander "C:\Program Files (x86)\Total Commander 7.03\tcadmin.exe" 2708 PC-DOMA\Admin The thing I do/did... I simply start the program, e.g. installation of FireFox3 (I've successfully installed it on WinXP), and when the window of UAC appears, I click on the continue button... then, the window of cmd flashes (shows itself for a very little time), it is impossible to read the contents of the window, but the screen shots helped here, they are attached. After that, nothing happens. No istallation or update is started, in the case I want to see processes of all users, the window of Task manager is closed, but the other one is not opened. In the case of total commander, as I have written, everything's working perfectly, no problem occurs. I want to thank you very very much for every answer... |

I have installed Firefox 2.x about 27 times on Vista 32 bit and twice on Vista 64bit, and Fx 3a1, 3a3, 3a4, 3b2, 3b3, 3b4, 3b5, 3RC1, 3RC2, 3RC3, and 3.0 Final on Vista x64 at least 20 times. I have *never* had to take ownership of the file. If you have a batch file that is taking ownership of these files when you allow a program to gain privileges then you've got something messed up in your system - my advice here is to stop fooling with it, and reinstall Vista from scratch. I have no issues with Task Manager, I don't use TC, and I don't use LogMeIn. I suspect either you have tried to make things easier on yourself because you don't like the UAC prompts, or else you're infected with a nasty Trojan / other Malware that is trying to trick you into giving it control of your system. |
