Re: Another Sp1 installation problem

Well, I took a look at the link provided, and the winsys folder appears to be completely untouched. All files mentioned are in place. My "backup" file is pretty large though at 514 MB.

Yup, I tried the standalone installer and got the same error. I can install all other updates without a hitch. it's just sp1 that doesn't like me.

Re: Another Sp1 installation problem

You might want to consider if it is a hardware problem. I'd double and triple check your drivers again, and your BIOS....

If you are not overclocking, try disabling all your hardware and remove all RAM but one stick and see if it lets it go by.

Re: Another Sp1 installation problem

I just performed the "fix" again, and as before windows update doesn't initially show me sp1 available, but it will later. Usually after I restart.

Re: Another Sp1 installation problem

I got a similar problem installing sp3 on win xp, unfortunatly looks like im going to need to do a full reinstall.

i tend to install sp1 as soon as ive logged on for the first time on a new install, otherwise i get all sorts of minor irritations.

Re: Another Sp1 installation problem

yup, tried the standalone and got the same error. Usually, when I tell Vista to install sp1, it will give me 0% of 0.0 kb until the error occurs. Earlier today, it began to download, but after about 5 minutes @ about 39%. it failed.

Oh, and I'm the same way. the first thing that I did after the install was to get my internet working and install all of the updates I could, but it took a few days for sp1 to show up for me. In fact, sp1 isn't showing up right now either.

There might be some prerequisite updates that you need to install first. Are you up to date on all other updates?

yup, all other updates are installed. Oh, and now sp1 is back in my windows update. it usually takes a short hiatus after I delete the entries in the quick fix
