I was thiking if you want to try a clean install there is a thing called slipstreaming where you merge the service pack with the copy of the OS and burn it to a dvd. I do not know how to do that. But maybe somebody here could point you in the right direction. Jimmy |

I think I would go a step further than Dwarf's recommendations, and just go ahead and create a slipstream dvd. Vista Lite does a pretty good job of it. Just be real careful with any subsystems that you remove as part of the process!! (By default, all subsystems and drivers are left with their defaults.) vLite - Windows Vista configuration tool |

As an addendum, I'm typing this on a system running a slipstreamed copy of Vista RTM + SP1. Everything worked great, except for when I tried to have the cd-key automatically entered. Perhaps I typed it wrong. Either way, I simply went in to the System Properties and put my serial in. Everything was A-OK. |

Hi dedet, If you want to try Itwally's suggestion about using a slipstreamed version of Vista with SP1 integrated in, here is a Tutorial for you to follow when creating the disk. Take note that this is ADVANCED material and, as pointed out in the Tutorial, time consuming. Dwarf Vista SP1 Slipstream Installation DVD |

Hi Dwarf, I have done a bit of research on the drivers for that card and I struck out insomuch that I did find a set with more signed than the originals but still one thats not. But please give it a go if you have the time. I hate the thought of more $ out of pocket, I just ordered a new back up solution and am updating my network to gigbite/draft-n. soooooo AVerMedia Technnopogies, INC. M780 PCIe NTSC/ATSC Combo TV tuner Driver date: 4-14-2008 Driver Version: 2.5.0.27 Servic: ID AVMNgTunM780 The driver not signed is: C:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\AVerTun.sys The thought I had with the slipstream as Itwally suggests is that my dvd drives are working with unsigned drivers also. Would I not have issue then when using one of them for the slipstream? DVD drives are as fallows Lite-on dvd-16p1s ata & Lite-on dvdrw lh-20a1h ata the two unsigned drivers are same for each drive as they use the same set of four. C:\windows\system32\drivers\Afc.sys C:\windows\system32\drivers\PxHelp20.sys File version: 1,0,0,2 I thank all of you for sharing my frustration. At this point I'm a dog with a bone, and I really want to win. dedet Last edited by dedet; 08-20-2008 at 12:37 PM. Reason: forgot file version |

Hi dedet, I stand by my previous suggestion of removing the card and then doing a CLEAN installation of Vista and SP1. There is no reason why you should have these drivers for your optical drives - they should operate satisfactorily with the standard Microsoft drivers. My gut feeling is that these drivers have either been installed with the drivers for your card or with some other disk-authoring software that you have installed. If you have managed to install Vista and SP1 by following my suggestion, you can try reinstalling the card. A link to the most recent driver (2008/08/05) is provided below. Check to see whether you need to install the drivers before or after the physical installation of your card (see the instruction manual) and manually create a resore point prior to doing so. That way, you should be able to restore your system to its previous condition if the driver and/or card causes problems. Dwarf AVerMedia MPD-Global - AVerTV Combo PCI-E |

It will give me good reason to poke around and do some fall cleaning as well. You found a different page than I with newer drivers, thanks for the time spent. If the offending drivers are still there in the optical drive folder I'm assuming that a delete of the drivers and a re boot will get rid of the unsigned ones that you think are piggy backed in? dedet |
