| Newbie | Error 643 .NET 1.1 SP 1 error Hi, I have Vista x64 HP installed, SP 1 installed. SP 1 was installed off the download as a stand alone installer after a clean installation of Vista x64. All updates were applied using Windows Update (microsoft update, if you will). Recently, I noticed that windows update had found that I needed, apparently, .NET 1.1 SP 1, which only seems to come in the x86 flavor. Running update did not allow me to intsall the package with an error code 643, which from my understanding tells the problem is microsoft's end and downloading was an issue. So, I downloaded the update as a standalone installer from MS website, and ran it. I got the error that the "netfix.msi", "ntfix" or "dotnet.msi" (cannot remember exactly, but believe it ot be the first) was not found in User/AppData/Local/Temp/IXP001.TMP/ and that I should tell it where the microsoft installer is located. I checked the directory manually, all system files visible, hidden files visible, common file extensions visible, and indeed, that folder/directory is not there. Looking at an associated log file in the Local/Temp revealed that dotnet.msi had been there at some point, it appears ... not sure when, and not deleted by me as far as I can tell. I stopped the update service, deleted fiels in download and datastore directory in windows/softwaredistribution and restarted windows update. rebooted. reran update, same issue, error 643. reran the standalone installer, same issue. reset windows update using the above method and went on vistax64 forums. Downloaded and ran the windows install cleanup utility from MS, deleted .NET 1.1 installation package using this utility, downloaded .NET manually and reran it, and it installed fine. Rebooted again. This was suggested on this forum, I followed the directions, but it did not help. Reran the .NET 1.1 SP 1 standalone installer again, same issue, cannot find X. I am not sure what the issue is, or if its related to KIS 2009 where files were banned from downloaded into IE cache from a protected source .... or if t his is the issue how to undo it. Resetting IE on the advanced tab to system defaults did not help the issue. Changing update to "never" and rerunning it, showed me it could not install the package, but the error was that the package was not necessary, but searching for available updates always found 1.1 SP 1, failed installed twice, then back to the same old ball game, "error 643" .... any help. I had SP1 for vista installed previous to this update dilemma, is the .NET 1.1 SP 1 obfuscated by Vista x64 SP1, and WU is finding it for some bizarre reason although its not needed? My SP 1 Vista x86 HP machine does not need this update. Following microsofts advice on their FAQ, I tried to find installation versions of .NET and it revealed, as far as I can tell, that 1.1 is installed but no additional service packs to this 1.1 version are apparent, as far as I can tell.
