Re: Error 80240028 on update KB955428

KB949041 is for Powerpoint Viewer 2003 I believe. If you uninstall PPV 2003 and install PPV 2007 it will take care of that problem, but there will be a few extra updates afterwards for that version, which shouldn't have problems installing.

If you can't uninstall PPV 2003 because it's a part of another package don't worry, the new one will take over and updates will be focused at it.

Download details: PowerPoint Viewer 2007

Re: Error 80240028 on update KB955428

Lisaz: My Email is removed The error code is the generic 4397.
I'm running Vista Premium 32 bit. (or trying to).
I don't find any help at MS website. I'll try Ex-brits solution - except I don' think I'll be paying for any upgrades.

I'll look forward to what you might suggest. Thanks

Phil

I downloaded PV 2007. No costs. Why couldn't MS just say it existed and was a solution?

I'll see if it took out PV2003 and the "Update"

Is there someone at MS in charge of making things ridiculous - or is just because everyone is getting on the "Hate Vista" bandwagon?

Thanks everybody. I know where to go for help - and I REALLY need it.

Thank you Guru. I am properly chastised and sorry for my lapse in judgement. Thanks for the removal.

For the rest ... I downloaded PPV2007 and it called for 6 more downloads but only 3 were used. Problem solved. I will now go and lick my wounds and appreciate all the help you have been.

No wounds to lick - there was not a lot of time, but I posted it as a warning to reinforce that this is applicable at *all* forums. If anyone asks for your email address, verify first that they are legitimate people, and then only provide it via PM.

Re: Error 80240028 on update KB955428

Phil, that was my fault for asking. I guess I need to read the rules. I am really sorry. I am a little frustrated about MS also. I was having a hard time resolving the KB955428 and called MS for help and was told that they do not support MS works so I hung up and figured it out on my own. I cancelled my WLOC antivirus program, which is a MS product, I am not giving MS anymore of my money for products. The update was Microsoft Update and they should provide support! I'll quit rambling now! I am happy to hear that you resolved you issues with these updates!

I missed that you asked for it Lisa - it is not a matter of 'rules' it is a matter of safe hex - don't post email addresses publicly.

As for M$ not supporting M$ Works - that is a crock. Did they say why?

Re: Error 80240028 on update KB955428

I guess we're "off subject" or something. If nothing else I appreciate that a dialogue has been created.

MS really needs to develop their customer relations - to the degree of monitoring what is ACTUALLy being said and done with their efforts. Actually testing updates on actual computers in use for non-programming functions might tip them to some of the anguish we get when our OS gets arbitrarily reset and / or the download is precluded by something only MS seems to be able to identify - but won't fix.

I'm not ordinarily a "complainer" but I've converted my whole family to Vista - as I did with 95, 98 and XP. Now they think I don't walk on water anymore and I get a lot of flack about these things. I happen to like the OS itself.

Lisaz100, John Galt, Ex-Brit - Thank you. Maybe someday you all can get the ear of someone in MS who will ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING to improve this very bad "weak spot" in an otherwise good company.

Thanks again.
