SP1 ate my internet access

Ok guys. First time poster here. Been searching around and can't find an answer. Hoping someone here has a clue!

Laptop - Dell Inspiron 1720 w/4GB RAM, that's been running Vista Home Prem x64 for over a year now. It wasn't std - it came with 32-bit. I did the upgrade and all has been fine.

Then came SP1. It installs fine, but once done, no 32-bit apps can talk to the internet. IE, Firefox, Thunderbird, Filezilla, etc. If it's a 32-bit windows app, it will fail to connect. However, I can fire up IE64 and browse like normal. Windows update will connect and update. I'm connecting wirelessly. When I rolled back SP1, my 32-bit connectivity was restored. I tried SP1 again and did all the updates. No go still.

The way they fail is odd too. If my access was disabled, I would get connection errors. Now, with this issue, I get no error. Very odd. IE & firefox just flash the status bar as if a page loads, but nothing happens. Thunderbird presents no error either.

Any clues? I'd like to stick to SP1 if possible, but if I can resolve this, I'll rollback and wait for SP2.

Thanks guys

Also - I am running Trend Micro Internet Security 2008, x64 version. I can shut it down, even uninstall to factor it out. No difference.

Welcome to the Vista Forums

I would recommend having the guru's at Microsoft take a stab at it. They are offering free tech support for SP1.

Here's the URL for the free SP1 support: https://support.microsoft.com/oas/de...4&gprid=500921

I hope this helps. Please let us know what the solution was.
