Windows update notification?

I have a question, please excuse my inexperience and noobness...
I have WU to notify me when updates are available for download, so I can decide what and if to download and install them....I noticed that I havent gotten a notification in awhile, usually WU has updates available every week....when I check for updates through WU, it says its up to date.. ( with the exception of an optional update for SilverLight..) last install was 8/15....but there are defender updates after that date installed, ( defender update has its own settings I'm guessing at this point?? ) Attached is a snip of the update window...kinda paranoid that I'm either not getting updates, or they are still being installed without notification?
Thanks for any replies...

Re: Windows update notification?

You can see when update have last been installed, so there probably not installing automatically. There hasnt really been any new updates lately, so I think you can breath easy.

Re: Windows update notification?

Hi,

Can't see your snip of the update, but yes you're missing some - last update I had was 6th sept.

When you say you checked for updates - was that in Control Panel and then a window opens with a green bar saying Windows is up to date ?

Just to the top left of that green bar there's another Check for Updates - click it. - you should get quite a few - DO IT NOW!

The way you seem to have it set up, you have to do it manually like this every day. Otherwise you would have got them - unless, did you ever notice a little shield on your shutdown button - that means the updates will be installed when you shutdown - should have had search, media center, update agent and lots of Defender updates since 8/15

Re: Windows update notification?

I did that SIW... only exception was the Silverlight I havent downloaded.. I DO have defender updates since the 15th, but no OS updates... like I asked... defender update has its own setting to notify first? maybe not since its a security program. Thanks for the replies.. I'm feeling better about no notifications for awhile.

Added the snip back to the post.. sorry..

Re: Windows update notification?

Hi,

I have mine set for Download but let me choose, and the Defender updates appear as a little shield on the shutdown button on the Start menu - it's easy to miss them them, then as you shutdown , they install. I suppose once you saw it , you could go to View Available Updates and hide them. I've got some more like Live Mail, Search but looks you have all the critical ones.
