Best way to install SP1 ?

I have just had to reinstall Vista Home Premium as my HD failed . I have installed all the updates from Microsoft and have just had a message to say that SP1 is available to download and install. I have the option of letting automatic updates do the job or use a DVD with SP I from Microsoft. Which method would be the safest?

Re: Best way to install SP1 ?

I would recommend using Windows Update as it will not apply updates you already have. Besides, it would be much faster as there would be less to download for the same reason. Can't say about the installation time though as SP1 is a major update and it literally rips vista's core off and puts in the spanking new n blistering fast Windows Server 2008 core. Re: Best way to install SP1 ?

I recommend that you download and manually install the standalone version (see link). This is the way I installed both SP1 for Vista and Office 2007. I notice that you are running the 32-bit version of Vista. As a bonus, both the standalone versions of SP1 for Vista and Office 2007 will fit on a standard 700 MB CD.

Re: Best way to install SP1 ?

Thanks to both of you for your help. I decided to install the stand alone version and it was successful. Thanks so much.
