guyz plz tell
Are you using a legitmate copy of windows ?
Can you display the error ?
Please follow the instructions on the website that matches your error:
Error message when you try to install Microsoft Update on a Windows Vista-based computer: "Could not install Microsoft Update on the computer"
Automatic updates may not be successfully downloaded from a computer that is running Software Update Services
If the above articles do not work we will need you to validate you windows, you can do this by surfing to Genuine Microsoft Software and clicking Validate Windows at the right side.
thx guys
the problem still persists
What exactly do you mean when you state "update windows"?
Are you talking about an update through Windows update? All of them, or just one?
There's an update I know that fails install on a lot of x64 systems (even though it's a specific x64 update), but it can be ignored. I'd just disable it.

Hi 8600GT,
Try updating to the latest WU version, It should correct any update errors you having
How to obtain the latest version of the Windows Update Agent to help manage updates on a computer

Hope I can jump in here...
I'm having all sorts of problems with my update as well on my Vista-Business 32 bit machine.
The error code that I get is: "WindowsUpdate_80070002" "WindowsUpdate_dt000"
I've already searched the forum and googled just about everything I can think of. Yes, I've deleted the files and folders; created at .bat file and run that as MS said to do.
One symptom that I may see is that the update site sometimes wants to install new update software, and when I tell it to do so, it fails. On the other hand, I can access the update file fine from the start button, and it loads and finds the updates it wants. Just now, it finds SP-1 waiting. That download begins and at about 45% of the download, it stops and I get the above message.
I've also inspected my Belarc Advisor and it reports that I'm also missing:
Q921598
Q951338
Q951546
Q951596
Q951944
Q953404
Q954326
Q954478
as well.
I've run SFC and retrieved the "[SR]" codes for "cannot repair" and found two:
systemsf.ebd
mfcm80ud.dll
both of which MS-knowledge base report as not being important/part fo Vista OS. Hate to do a complete, clean install of my OS, but don't know what else to do.
BTW - I have found that I only have v1.1 of .NET framework. Could that be an issue??
Thank you all for this wonderful site!!
