SP1 has completley killed my computer

Hi

I was installing the sp1 update and it was going fine until the restart point when there was an error and it froze, after restarting the computer it just flashes with the blue screen of death and reboots and so the cycle continues. I cant run safe mode or anything, I downloaded the Vista x64 boot disk as i didnt recieve and disk with my computer but when it boots of the disk after loading disk contents it blue screens me again. I know there is nothing wrong with the rest of my hardware as i have put in an old xp harddrive and everything runs fine. I know its not a problem with the boot disk because when i unplug my main hd the boot disk loads up as i presume it should but there is no sign of windows on my 2nd hdd so it cant do anything. I dont mind loosing any data on my main harddrive i just dont know how to re-format it as the boot disk won't work and i have no other vista disk. Any help please??

Re: SP1 has completley killed my computer

Do you meant your computer came pre-installed but without sp1? I still don't get what were you doing. But what ever it is, it will help if you remember to remove 2 gig of ram before you try again.

Re: SP1 has completley killed my computer

It has been reported that 4GB ram and Vista can get a bit pissy if you try to
A: Try to install vista
B: Try to install a SP.

Try to boot it with 2GB ram and if that works then install SP1 with only 2GB ram and then put the other 2GB back in...

Re: SP1 has completley killed my computer

did you install the new nforce drivers, 15.23 or something close?
there have been a number of problems with the latest batch of nforce and forceware drivers from nvidia

you should revert to an older version and give that a try

you could also check the nvidia user forums and there are some work arounds and a few user created driver packages for the most up to date stable drivers

Re: SP1 has completley killed my computer

Hi Eddy,

If you need to reinstall, you should be able to do it with a borrowed Vista dvd. You will need your product key - I assume you have it?

When you say you downloaded the Vista boot disk , do you mean the recovery disc from neosmart ?

Create a Recovery Disc
