3d Flip feature removed by update?

Hi all,

I've got a pretty insignificant, but weird bug: the highly hyped, hardly useful 3d flip feature of Vista has just magically disapeared from my comp. Only thing I know I've done was installing the latest x64 security update (KB958644) just before this. The icon is still there, but it just brings up the old school blue box version, and winKey-tab no longer does anything. Anybody heard of an update removing this feature, or know where the mysterious 'flip' files are actually located?

Thanks; and BTW its good to be on and posting for once, I've found a lot of help here since diving into the 64bit world :geek:

Hi Jerome and welcome to Vista Forums

I have today installed this update (KB958644) and have had no issues with it. Flip 3D is working normally. Have a look at this Tutorial (and the links within) - hopefully this will help you restore this functionality: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/68863-flip-3d.html

Thank you for the responses! That tutorial was interesting, and I wasn't aware that 3d flip was tied to the aero scheme. I definitely hadn't changed the scheme though, so I don't think that was the problem.

Its a moot point now because, although I rarely use it, the flip functionality is now magically back on:eek: I suspect it had nothing to do with the update, and it was just a coincidence that i happened to notice the bug then. I'm often changing resolution properties going back and forth to a big screen, so maybe something got stuck there. who knows, but problem solved, and thanks again for the help!

Well, this kept happening and I finally figured out what was causing it. As I said, Aero hadn't been fiddled with, but 3d Flip is also reliant on other display settings. My problem was the color bit rate was switched from 32 to 16 bit under display settings. Apparently Flip won't operate under 16. I still haven't figured out how it is getting changed, but likely the graphics card (nvidia quadro fx 570m) is doing it during dual monitor transitions.

Just thought I'd post my solution in case anyone else runs into it....
