Error code 0x800F0826 is basically telling you that some other update(s) is failing, which is causing the Service Pack to fail. Can you install all available updates on Windows Update, reboot, then try the installer again?

If this problem persists, we will have to find out what Updates have failed and why.
Can you please do the following:

1. Open Windows Update by clicking the Start button, clicking All Programs, and then clicking Windows Update.
2. In the left pane, click View update history.
3. Find the updates that have failed to install, in the last week or two.

Finding out the updates that have failed can help us repair and reinstall those, which will allow the SP1 to install successfully.

Hi, Neverhavemoney

The original problems with installing SP1 was related to incompatible drivers there is a list here ...

Windows Vista Service Pack 1 is not available for installation from Windows Update and is not offered by Automatic Updates

If you have anything on the list you may want to check if there are newer drivers available at the relevant manufacturers website, download and install them then retry the SP1 install.

you could also try a System File Check just to confirm there are no corrupt files that may cause a problem.

Hi Neverhavemoney,

ok that says that you have corrupted files (you probably worked that out yourself! ), at least it gives us somewhere to start looking

if you have a look at Shawn's tutorial, he gives a method to identify the corrupt files (section 1 in the tips) from the log files created by SFC

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/66978-system-files-sfc-command.html

once you have the details of the files you need you may want to check out this link

DLL-files.com - Download all your missing dll-files.

if you replace the bad files that will hopefully cure your problem

Hey barman,
I went on dell.com and found this amazing tool. Its Dell™ PC Restore by Symantec™ (for Microsoft® Windows® XP) and Dell Factory Image Restore (for Microsoft® Windows Vista®) exist on a hidden partition on your hard drive that contains an exact copy of your computer's original setup. These programs allow you to reset your computer's operating system and software to the original state in which it was shipped to you from Dell.

It was awsome and i am gunna try installing SP1 tonight after i get all of my programs back up and running. Worked amazing so far!!!

Thanks,
Ben

Hi ben,

Yes I'm aware of the recovery option on Dell and other machines from large manufacturers, I assume you had your files , documents, pictures etc, on another partition or backed up.

As your machine will have been reset to how it was when it left the factory you will have to install all the updates again that you did previously.

It may be worth installing SP1 and the other updates before you re-install any other programs

I would still advise installing SP1 from the downloaded file rather than via Windows Update just to be safe

Good luck and keep us informed of progress
