Hi
I've tried it through windows update and from the standalone update from my hard drive when it was downloaded. Would doing of a disc make a difference?

Hi throbinson,

Whether you install SP1 from your HDD or from a disc should make no difference, however if you have a disc you can use it to install SP1 again should you have cause to reinstall Vista. The best time to install a service pack is on a fresh installation of Vista.
It is possible that some aspect of your system is preventing the successful installation of SP1. In order that we can help you with this, please post back with full details of your system, together with the current driver versions that you are using for your hardware.

Hi
I've managed to get sp1 installed the same problem comes up with thick white lines over the screen. The problem is with the on board ATI x1200 graphics, when this is disabled everything works fine apart from noy having any sound. I've tried updating the drivers which doesnt work.
I'm waiting for my geforce 8800gt to be returned from the warrenty hope this one will work ok. In the meantime anybody got any solutions about my lines on the screen?

When you say "when this is disabled everything works fine" I presume you are talking about the driver and not the onboard graphics, if so;
It can only be the driver

Ok,
Now I am with you, what you are in fact doing is disabling the device driver.
If you left click on the little cross it will show you your graphic device the x1200, right click on the device and select properties, select the driver tab and let me know which driver version you have installed.
You may also have the option to roll back the driver if you haven't already done so, try this, if it doesn't help let me know what driver version is now installed
