Continuous System RESTART

Hey there everyone, sorry if this question has been asked before.

I am a new vista ultimate 64 bit user. I have just obtained a new system and was running vista ultimate 64 on it just fine. I noticed that my cpu cooler fan was not spinning properly. I also noticed that my computer would crash randomly and tell me that there was a problem with the hardware. A friend reccommended that I reinstall the OS and I did just that.

Upon reinstalling the OS, I like to download and install all of the updates. After the updates are done installing I try to restart the computer but when it reboots, it says there is a problem, and asks for me to insert the installation cd to repair the computer. I have done this MULTIPLE times and this is becoming very VERY frustrating. The computer will run just fine if I dont run any of the windows updates on it.

I am technologically inept so I am sorry in advance if this is an easy fix. I hope that someone can help me take care of this problem as it is REALLY starting to piddle me off haha.

Thanks a lot

mmmmmm this could take a while so ill start you off , reinstalling the operating system wont fix a hardare fault ;) It seems odd that its fine without the updates , the only real way is to istall the updates one by one and find out exactly which one is causing the problem then come back and post the offending update (assuming of course your hardware is ok which is a differant issue altogehter ;) )

either problem can be solved but it involves some work your end , so im afraid its install one by one till it goes t!ts up again ;)

you have sorted your cpu cooling yes?

I seem to have the same problem - though mine doesn't ask anything - just boots as far as the system is almost booted - screen has been through the Welcome screen - goes black as if its going to boot and then restarts.

It boots into safe mode ok so I've done a system restore - last one was following an update this evening.

To be fair I've had a few problems with random lockups the last few days - it did it every now and again on Xp - but not the same amount. The only thing that Windows tells me when this happened was that it was something to do with either PSU, Motherboard, CPU or memory. Which is not terribly helpful.

The only other thing I have done since yesterday is changed the keyboard and mouse - to wireless - which is now a pain as the keyboard doesn't become live until its booted up - so I've had to refit the old keyboard to allow me to enter the bios and change the boot options (Like safe mode)

This is really starting to get on my goat - to the point that I might upgrade the computer - it does need it anyway - but I would like to keep this one going.

Any help would be appriciated - even if its just suggesting a decent replacement!

Oh, and apologies to the OP for hijacking the thread :D
