Re: service pack 2

Hello Rockingfiber,

Before installing Service Pack whether the stand alone one or via Windows updates, turn off your AntiVirus and Windows Defender. This should fix the problem. Post back and let us know how's the progress.

Re: service pack 2

Seems that something interfere with the installation of SP2. Please download and run the System Update Readiness Tool for x86 OS. This one is just for Vista x86. This tool will try to fix and prepare your computer to update. After that reboot the computer and immediately install the Service Pack2 which you previously downloaded. I guess you have the correct version of SP2 for your 32bit system.

Edit: Have you ever installed prerelease version Of SP2?

Re: service pack 2

Well, don't know what to suggest, but I would try to turn off all applications which might run in the background. Tun off the AV, firewall and Defender before installing SP2.
Check if you have the KB955430 update in the update history. If not download and install it.
Guess you don't want to reinstall the whole operating system, right?

Re: service pack 2

Hi rockingfiber, the best way to install service pack 2 is to backup your data and do a clean install of vista and then without installating anything else, install sp2. Then install all your drivers and sofrwares. Its kinda painful but this is what i will do i would have been in your place. Your computer will give you a very nice performance if you follow my method.

Re: service pack 2

Has anyone notice if their Windows experience index score may have drop after
installing Sp2? I would think this would probably happen to some since sp2 is in
fact new supporting hardware. I also read somewhere that the WEI scores may
go to a higher number as newer hardware come out on the market.
So, my question is:
If I have a WEI score of 3.5 now with SP1 and after
installing Sp2 (and updating my score!) will my score
be the same? Just curious since sp2 does support more
newer hardware.
