Vista SP1 F-ed up my lap top

So I have a Lenovo 3000 N100 lap top with windows vista home premium. A couple days I had to reformat and literally spent TWO days doing nothing but downloading updates. After about 90 updates and the hell of having to download IE 8, I get told via windows update to download SP1. I already went through a lot of hell trying to install it last year. Long story short, help from Microsoft is worthless. Sent an email about it and despite the "we'll repspond in 8 hours or something" it was 3 days later and and basicaly just sent me a copy and pasted web page about the issue that I already CLEARLY specifyed in the email saying the methods did not work. Anyways this time I go to instal and everything worked smoothy, tell me to restart, then when it boots it gives me the whole "Ntoskrnl.exe" is missing or corrupt deal. Didn't have the infamous "vista disc" because microsoft won't supply it with anything that not made by them, but from what I read that method dosen't work. So the only choice I had was to reformat AGAIN, after just updating everything again two days before <_< So after spending another 2 days getting up to date it poped up again, for the time being windows update is disabled, I'm not instaling something that destorys a computer. Suposedly there is this "free" program called RegCure, but its a SCAM, found like 765 errors, but won't fix 95 percent of them unless you wana pay for it despite it being "free" <_< So does anyone know a way to possibly get around this problem or ensure it doesn't happen again? Because until then I refuse to instal anymore updates from microsoft

Sounds like a good idea...

Maybe this thread will help: Re: C:\ntoskrnl.exe
C:\ntoskrnl.exe

Re: Vista SP1 F-ed up my lap top

that didn't really offer much help as to the fact that it seemed like the only solutions those people came up with was reformatting, which I've had to TWICE this week and am not willing to do again.

Re: Vista SP1 F-ed up my lap top

For service packs i always get them straight from Microsoft and not through Windows Update. You can get service pack 1 from either of these links:

32 Bit: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
64 Bit: Download details: Windows Vista Service Pack 1 Five Language Standalone for x64-based Systems (KB936330)

Download http://www.tune-up.com/download/ this will help fix errors you have on your pc. Also never use RegCure, cCleaner etc as they are junk.

I'm just afraid that after reformatting that Ntoskrnl.exe thing isn't gone be fixed and I'll have to go through the same hell all over again. I may try it again by downloading it through there, but I'm backing everything up first this time if I do.

If you do decide to reformat, then iclick the link in my signature and follow that guide.

After doing step 1 install the Vista Service Pack using 1 of the links above then go onto step 2 etc

Care to explain why you believe CCleaner is junk? I happen to use that cleaning utility on a daily basis and it has greatly improved the performance of my PC

I'm afraid it is a hard disk problem. Have you ever tried with another hard disk?

Hi GeneticFreak

If you like cCleaner then continue using it. I downloaded it a few years ago and had a look at what its reg cleaner was going to delete. I decided then that id never use it as it was going to delete files vista needs.

Theres loads of threads on this forum alone of people complaining about speed issues with Vista or that they are getting crashes, freezes etc and then you find they have been using cCleaner.

Well I used to use cCleaner! 0_0 But It wasn't even installed after the two times I reformatted, as I said, other then essential things like anti-virus/anti spyware I havn't really been downloading ANYTHING but windows updates <_<
