Re: Setting Up Vista for Speed Guide

You didnt have to quote the whole lot riptorn But anyway i just dont like cCleaner, i find its registry cleaner to be rubbish although the cleaning out of files i like. I think its an OK app but there is better available with nicer gui's that are easier to use and wont cause system problems. By all means try it if you want but you should look around the forums first and notice the threads asking for help and a lot of them say stuff like "i use ccleaner". My advice is to not use it but hay its up to you, its your pc lol.

Re: Setting Up Vista for Speed Guide

Thanks for this! The improvement is incredible I tested it out on one of my backup PCs also (Intel Celeron 2.8ghz, 1gb Ram, 80gb SATA HDD) and even on that the performance has improved incredibly!

Cheers

Re: Setting Up Vista for Speed Guide

Your welcome Ross L and riptorn. Im glad its helped your pc's.

To answer your question about cleaning apps riptorn i use Tune Up Utilities, however its not free so if your looking for free alternatives then i dont really know. A combination of the Advanced Disk Cleanup in the Utilities.zip i posted and IE Privacy Keeper would clean out most of the trash files though and be a good place to start. Hope this helps.

Re: Setting Up Vista for Speed Guide

For Step 10 couldn't you just disable 'Windows Search' in services.msc?

Yes that should be one of the services you disable when you do step 11. I just recommend doing step 10 first.

Step 9 is not supported by some hard drives. Older hard drives, raid setups etc may not allow it, so it will just change back to the default settings automatically.

Anyway, excellent guide. Just did all of it today from a clean install.
