Okay, in my Windows Update, this 'optional' update is forever on there, waiting for me to install it. Well, when I do try to install it, it just ends up failing with error code 80070103 (Unknown error). Is this update necessary for regular use or do I need it, despite it being labeled optional. Oh, and why does it fail continually?

Hi Kazuto
I usually go with the 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' theory when downloading optional updates. If all is working well, I usually find that optional updates are more trouble than help..

Thanks for the tip, Flavius.
I followed it; surely I have leaner C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder now.
After rebooting I still get the same Update message and it still won't install.

As far as I know my nVidia FirstPacket technology is working fine on my AMD Sempron,
so I'll just ignore the availabe update.

I appreciate your thorough reply.

The driver (for my 32 bit Vista) installed easily from nVidia.

Emptied Software Distribution again; received same notification of driver published 5/6/2009 after rebooting and restarting Windows update.

But I know the latest driver that you led me to is in place.
