vista 32bit SP2 install problems

hi i have a dell xps m1530 with vista home premium 32 bit (SP1). i recently tried to update to SP2 and ran into problems multiple times. i have tried installing both from windows update and from a separate file downloaded from the internet, and both times the installation aborted itself, saying either "error code B7" or "the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable". i've tried both re-downloading the file and turning off my security software, but neither has had any effect. has anyone else had this problem/know what i should do? i'd really like to update to SP2.

thanks

i have heard nothing but issues with SP2 for vista i would just leave it alone for now until M$ fixes it.

I read something similar to your problem on gizmo's freeware site (Microsoft Releases Vista SP2).

Poster also had a Dell XPS m1530 which failed to install SP2 (he was not specific about the error codes, although he mentions its similar to the "vLite problem"). He apparently did a "repair install" of Vista after which he successfully installed SP2.

I 'm not sure what a repair install entails both in terms of doing one or what it does, but it seems to me a way to fix some of the corrupted/unreadable files that may be preventing your SP2 install.

I don't if this will solve your problem, but hopefully, this points you in the right direction.
