This security update (see below) kept reappearing on my task bar wanting to be installed and I kept installing it. I finally checked and I have it on the list of installed updates a dozen times--but it still keeps appearing on my task bar asking to be installed. It's like a spell gone wrong. How do I stop it and/or get rid of it? I don't even have works 8 on my computer. Thanks, Don.

Thanks for trying to help me out Flavius. The problem is rather peculiar. The update is for Microsoft Works 8 which I do not have. (I don't have it and no element of it is installed.) I've followed all your instructions (several times) and done many other things, but nothing worked. I went to "Available Updates" and unchecked this unwanted update, but it didn't make any difference either. As a matter of interest, in my update history, the update (KB967053) is shown as installed (about 30 times). However, when I go to programs and "view installed updates", it is not listed.

Run cmd.exe with administrative previlliges and type

sfc /scannow

when it will done create report

Run cmd.exe with administrative previlliges and type

findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt

on your desktop appear file sfcdetails.txt

next run CheckSur http://www.vistax64.com/785616-post2.html
even if this tool won't resolve problem automatically it create logs:

C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log

System also create logs -there is log C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log but this log is mostly too big
So download FireGenUL Altair Technologies Ltd.
place this file in C:\Windows\System32 and restart computer
next run cmd.exe and type

firegenul

and then will create short *.htm report from WindowsUpdate.log placed in C:\Users\<your account> -report name FireGenUlReport.htm

All tree files:FiregenUlReport.htm,sfcdetails.txt and CheckSUR.log pack them and attache to post -if they will are to big to attache upload them on Speedy Share - upload your files here

Dear Flavius: I very much appreciate all the effort you put in to help me with my problem. I'm an old chap and not very computer literate, so I hesitated to undertake the "Logging" suggestion in your last email. And now, for some reason, the problem has gone away. The only thing I did that I can relate to this changed situation is that I completely turned off MS updates for a few days. When I turned them on again, the recurring download had stopped. Again, thanks for trying to help me out. It was very generous of you.

Best wishes, Don Lemna
