Windows Vista 64 updates, won't restart?

I'll just quickly say exactly what happened. As i was playing a game, vista closed at approx. 3 am. and began to shutdown. It then showed that it was on step 2 of 3 for an update and was configuring the update. After this was complete the pc shut down and restarted. I saw the bios load and even got to the green loading bar. The screen then went black for a brief period. A small flash occured and my monitor went into "sleep" mode (Dell LCD monitor, the button went from green to orange). Nothing would wake it up. I restarted in safe mode and went with a system restore from about 2 weeks ago ( or as far back as i could go) and when it restarted after restoring i had the same problem. I have no way to install a new driver for my video card because safe mode won't let me install anything. Anyone know what could be up or what my options are? Much MUCH thanks to anyone who can help me.
