Windows Vista freezes once opening Windows Update

Hello, Guys!

I have Windows Vista Home Premium 32-Bit with NO SERVICE PACKS installed.

The only reason is because I can't get Windows Update to install the updates before I can fully install Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (then later 2)..

The problem is, If I run Windows Update, I get a blank screen and then if I wait about a minute or so I'll get something that says

I have a large amount of Updates to install, I think total the update's total to be 200 mb.

I had Windows Vista before and then now re-installed Vista, So I'm positive I don't have any trojans messing with Windows Update.

Also, My Computer also freezes of I hit the the button that says shut off the pc and install updates.

Please help me with my problem, Thanks!

darkjaksrevenge:

I've had better luck with Service Packs through Microsoft.com than with Windows
Update.

Download details: Windows Vista Service Pack 1 Five Language Standalone (KB936330)

Be sure to read the page carefully, especially the Things you should know...
and other links. There may be a few things to install to prep for the SP.

I recommend downloading the SP, and burning to DVD and installing
from that DVD.
If the SP file is an iso file it'll need to be "burned as an image".

Download ImgBurn 2.5.0.0 - FileHippo.com

Let me know whether this helps.

Thanks for the quick replies guys..

I already had tried that FixIt thing once i installed it, i rebooted, then what lol? Program wasnt in my programs list or anything.. i dont know is that i all i need to do with that is just install it?

I also did download the WGA plugin and installed that. I guess if i check in my windows update history there was 2 updates actually managed to install, but there is none listed that failed.

Your bits service is not yet working properly. from your windows update log i found that update agent cannot use bits service. To rectify this problem, Follow these steps.

1. Click Start, click Run, type regsvr32 qmgr.dll in the Open box, and then click OK.Click OK.
2. Click Start, click Run, type regsvr32 qmgrprxy.dll in the Open box, and then click OK.Click OK.

Also make sure that the bits service is set to Manual in services console :)

How what happened? That it wouldnt install updates?+
Yes.Which step did you help?Post 10?It would be strange if you used KB971058 "reset Windows Components" because things contained in post 10 KB971058 do it also....or you didn't choose agresive mode...

My Computer

Well i tried the FixIt, which didnt really do anything. Then i download the service pack 1 standalone and installed that but i also updated my BITS service. Also BITS was set in my services.msc to Automatic (Delayed Start) so i changed that to just Automatic.

I think you rather mean this->An update is available to fix a Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) crash on a Windows Vista-based computer
because this hotfix An update is available for Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) 2.0 for Windows XP impossible to install on Vista (both offered in post 7)
Congratulations and thank you for your info.
