Windows Update has tried on numerous occiasions to install Service pack 1 but it fails every time. I went to the vista site and downloaded it on the stand alone link. It downloaded and got half way through installation and it said there was an error. Unfortunately I didnt write down the error code.
Why wont it install? Does anyone know?

I havent bothered too much about it til now but I wanted to install a 3 broadband dongle modem yesterday and it wont install and I am wondering if the service pack not being on there is causing that.

Basically I need some Help please......lol

Run cmd.exe with administrative previlliges and type

sfc /scannow

when it will done create report

Run cmd.exe with administrative previlliges and type

findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt

on your desktop appear file sfcdetails.txt

Try reregister WU How do I reset Windows Update components?

next run CheckSur Description of the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista, for Windows Server 2008, for Windows Server 2008 R2 Release Candidate, and for Windows 7 Release Candidate
even if this tool won't resolve problem automatically it create logs:

C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log

System also create logs -there is log C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log but this log is mostly too big
So download FireGenUL Altair Technologies Ltd.
place this file in C:\Windows\System32 and restart computer
next run cmd.exe and type

firegenul

it will create log FireGenReport.html in C:\Windows\System32

Check also this:

Remove all *.xml files in C:\Windows\WinSxS folder and empty C:\Windows\WinSxS\Temp folder

check also HKLM\Components key with my http://www.vistax64.com/872713-post6.html
if you have any other extra phrases in this key you have to remove them+restart

If still nothing help attache all logs to post
FireGenReport.html,sfcdetails.txt and CheckSur.log
