vista start menu prg bombs after wupdate

I use Vista start menu. It works great. However, after Windows update a couple of days ago, the vistastartmenu.exe file suddenly disappears from my computer. Started happening after the latest updates from MS:
KB970653 and KB972036.
Only that file disappears. If I do a complete uninstall and clean the registry of all occurances of that program and try to do a clean install of any version of that program, I get an error stating that a file in the destination folder could not be renamed and the installation bombs.
I restored from a backup a week ago. Everything works fine..Vista start menu works great. As soon as I run windows update and those two update files are put on... then after system restart, about 10 later, vistastartmenu.exe disappears again.

---update...I uninstalled KB972036 and still cannot install any version of the prg. The other update is just a daylight saving time correction. The error message is: MoveFile failed Code 5 -an error occurred while trying to rename a file in the destination directory.

NOW SOLVED
...update... it turns out that at the same time these updates were going on, my comodo firewall downloaded a new antivirus database. Guess which file was flagged as bad....vistastartmenu.exe......so comodo just deleted it. I restored, turned off comodo, and ran that file through 3 other antivirus prgs...no problems. This file is a false positive in comodo. I just added it to the ignore list in comodo.....everything works fine now. F.....k........What a gigantic waste of time !!!!
