Hi
My computer is currently trying to install updates for Internet Explorer on a daily basis but gets stuck with error 80070001.
The updates are:
- Internet Explorer 7 cumulative security update
- Internet Explorer 8
It successfully downloads all other Windows updates.
I've tried disabling Norton and running scannow - with no luck.
I can't find any evidence of anyone else having this problem - please help!!
Thanks

Press Ok
Type "regsvr32 wups.dll" (w/o quotes)
Press Ok
Type "regsvr32 wuaueng.dll" (w/o quotes)

Now try the WU site again.
If that does not work, un-install IE7 and IE8, re-install IE8 and try again.

Hi stoneys-nutz
I loaded the DLL's as requested. All loaded apart from wucltui.dll - for which I got the following error:
"The module "wucltui.dll" failed to load. Make sure the binary is stored at the specified path or debug it to check for problems with the binary or dependent .DLL files. The spcified module could not be found."
I restarted the computer and tried redoing the updates and still get the 80070001 error.
Per the comment above I don't think I can uninstall Explorer 7 (and 8 hasn't successfully installed).
Anything else I can try?
Thanks

Run this installer, it will install Windows update agent.
If this does not work then you can download the corrupt .dll file direct and install, try this first though.

Hi

I've run the windows update agent.
I've also tried the reset WU (using microsoft fixit - both with default and aggressive).
I've just tried installing wulctui.dll but I get a compatibility error ("the module wucltui.dll may not be compatible with the version of windows that you're running. Check if the module is compatible with an x86 or x64 version of regsvr32.exe").
I'm assuming I've downloaded an old version of wulctui.dll, but can't find anything compatible -can you suggest where I could find an x64 compatible version?

Thanks

The windows update agent contains those files, thats why i suggested you use them, strange that it did not update them.
I will look for later .dll, although i don't hold out much hope in finding one.
This seems to be the only one around, i suspect it's the same as the one you tried though.

wucltui.dll download - free dll files

By default settings Vista don't have this file.Presence this file depence from what other MS programs you have installed (SQL Server or any other).Surly not with it is issue. And anothere error:libraries from this web are x32 and @downloadprobs have Vista x64 and he can't mix x32 modules with other x64 modules!

make this also:

Run cmd.exe with administrative previlliges and type

sfc /scannow

when it will done create report

Run cmd.exe with administrative previlliges and type

findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt

on your desktop appear file sfcdetails.txt

next run CheckSur Description of the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista, for Windows Server 2008, for Windows Server 2008 R2 Release Candidate, and for Windows 7 Release Candidate
even if this tool won't resolve problem automatically it create logs:

C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log

System also create logs -there is log C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log but this log is mostly too big
So download FireGenUL Altair Technologies Ltd.
place this file in C:\Windows\System32 and restart computer
next run cmd.exe and type

firegenul

and then will create short *.htm report from WindowsUpdate.log placed in C:\Windows\System32 -report name FireGenUlReport.htm

All tree files:FiregenUlReport.htm,sfcdetails.txt and CheckSUR.log pack them and attache to post -if they will are to big to attache upload them on Speedy Share - upload your files here

My Computer

Hi Flavius

Looks like repair install requires a recovery disc. Unfortunately HP didn't ship one with our computer, and they've helpfully told me I'll have to buy one from them if I want one!!
Maybe next step is to throw my computer out the window :).
I've just found something that says I can hit F8 on startup to start the repair process without a CD...will give this a try and let you know how I go.
Thanks for all your help on this!
