Hi,

I am working on a PC Vista x86 and never had such a problem. For the last month now, I have not been able to install the following updates: (KB 968389, KB 956744, KB968816, KB970653, KB967723, KB970710, KB973540, KB948465).

Have also try to install them manually but it still does not work. I have SP1 on my PC.

I have tried many things (thanks to other forums...including installing KB947821) but nothing has worked yet.

Any help with this will be much appreciated.

Try install SP2 (KB948465) in safe mode.

EDIT
I'm sorry -I didn't notice Readiness Tool you've tried already

Run cmd.exe with administrative previlliges (right click on cmd.exe) as admin and type:

sfc /scannow

When it finish type in cmd.exe

findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt

on your desktop appear sfcdetails.txt

Download firegenul http://www.altairtech.ca/FireGenUL/download.asp
place firegenul.exe in C:\Windows\System32

next again run cmd.exe with admin previlliges and type:

firegenul

it creates report from WindowsUpdate.log and is stored in C:\Windows\System32 as FireGenReport.htm

Both FireGenReport.htm and sfcdetails.txt pack and attache to post

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821

My Computer

Firegen reports many these errors:

FATAL: CBS called Error with 0x800b0100,
and

FATAL: Completed install of CBS update with type=0, requiresReboot=0, installerError=1, hr=0x800b0100
These errors suggest CBS key corrupted or files in C:\Windows\Servicing\Packages.It may turn out Repair Install will be necassary.

Find CBS.log in C:\Windows\Logs\CBS

pack it and attache here,if it will be too big to attache host it on Speedy Share - upload your files here

EDIT
Question about KB947821:
You can't install it or only didn't help? This is difference.Even this tool don't help it create CheckSur.log report in C:\Windows\Logs\CBS.If you have this file attache to post also

My Computer

Your checksur.log is interesting.

It reports about missing a few components in C:\Windows\Servicing\Packages

(f) CBS MUM Missing 0x00000002 servicing\packages\Microsoft-Windows-VistaServicePack-SysHiper-SP1-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.0.6002.18005.mum

But also many files relate to KB948465 for example

(f) CBS MUM Missing 0x00000002 servicing\packages\Package_19_for_KB948465~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.0.1.18005.mum

...but KB948465 it is Service Pack 2 but you tried install it :sarc:!From only CheckSur.log I can think you have already installed SP2 with corrupted some components. Can you clarify this?Do you have installed SP2 or not?

Independly from answers I'll attache here missing files, but due to I have them extract from SP1 and SP2 ...and downloading both service packs take some times
You have to wait a while

My Computer

OK.At last I correct extracted files from service packs. It turn out alone 7-zip can't correct extract all files but finally I did it.The only one disturb me this error

(f) CBS MUM Missing 0x00000002 servicing\packages\Microsoft-Windows-VistaServicePack-SysHiper-SP1-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.0.6002.18005.mum
this file don't exist in SP1 or SP2,some systems don't have this file, but my x64 system have this equivalent for x64 (but not the same),none of my x32 systems have this file.
But follow to instructions from @nathdakiwi from MS Tech SP2 will not install, needs SP1, but SP1 is installed
It seems you can ignore this error.Following to his instructions which had similar issue (although not the same)

I attached to post almost all request by CheckSur files, download them and unpack anywhere

1.Navigate to C:\Windows\Servicing\Packages,takeownership of this folder and add your account to have full control
2.Copy my files to this folder -if you have already any file then replace it.
3.Remove your account from permissions to Packages folder
4.Restore ownership of Packages folder back to "NT Service\TrustedInstaller"
5.Install SP2 stand alone

Thanks again for help.
Did all this. And then tried to install SP2. A pop up told me that I had to install SP1 before installing SP2...same problem.

And do you have installed SP1 or not?If not install SP1.If you have already installed SP1 the problem is with the error

(f) CBS MUM Missing 0x00000002 servicing\packages\Microsoft-Windows-VistaServicePack-SysHiper-SP1-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.0.6002.18005.mum
As said I can't find this file in SP1,none of of my x32 systems with SP1 installed,I'll try find answer on this, you have to wait for few hours...

My Computer

There are required files.I can't explain how I didn't notice it before in unpacked SP2 .This file is included to SP2 not in SP1 thus none of Vista SP1 have this file.Never mind. The same procedure as before:

1.Download attached files and unpack anywhere
2.Navigate to C:\Windows\Servicing\Packages,takeownership of this folder and add your account to have full control
3.Copy my files to this folder -if you have already any file then replace it.
4.Remove your account from permissions to Packages folder
5.Restore ownership of Packages folder back to "NT Service\TrustedInstaller"
6.Again run SP2 stand alone

thanks again for help, but sorry, after all this, same message appeared "you have to install SP1 first"
You should have now all files required:huh:.Remove old CheckSur.log from C:\Windows\Logs\CBS and again run Readiness Tool (KB947821) and attache here new CheckSur.log

My Computer

here is it attached. By the way, my windows audio service does not start automatically anymore (when I switch on my PC). I have to right click on speaker and enable it. Do you know why this is happening?

Readiness Tool request another files to C:\Windows\Servicing\Packages.Below they are attached.Same procedure as in previous posts.

Do you know why this is happening?
It adress to WU issue or to Audio issue? What cause WU issue I don't know.Relate to Windows Audio service:it may caused by wrong Audio drivers or service is corrupted.
Start>>Search>>eventvwr.msc and check in System section error messages relate to Windows Audio -post here

You did it!
I have installed Service Pack 2 and then installed the updates that normally did not work. This is fantastic. I had been struggling with this problem for 2 weeks. Thanks a million.
I have tried running Event log service but a pop up told me "Event log service is unavailable, please verify that service is running".
When I start up computer, Windows audio service still does not start automatically and Windows security centre does not start automaticall also ( I have to do both manually). How can I change this?
Thanks again.

1.Check you have following keys:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\RPC\INTERNET
HKLM\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\RPC\RPCPROXY

If you find these keys remove them + restart.

2.Run cmd.exe with administrative previlliges (right click on this file as admin)
and type

winmgmt /resetrepository
+restart

3.Download OTL http://oldtimer.geekstogo.com/OTL.exe and prepare logs MAIN +EXTRAS from this.Logs attache to post

My Computer

1) so when I searched in HkeyLocalMachine I did not find the keys. It just said: ab Default REG_SZ (value not set)
2) WMI repository reset failed (error: 0x800704B)

Please find logs attached. (I am leaving in 2 hours so might not be able to reply before monday). Thanks again for your fantastic help.
