Hello,

If there is already a thread on this, please post me back the link. I couldn't find it.

Windows Vista SP2 finally hit my windows update. When I run it from windows update, it goes through a few install screens, (usual permission screens, etc), then attempts to run and displays a status bar for a few minutes. Each time I've tried it, it will eventually say:

SOME UPDATES WERE NOT INSTALLED
FAILED: 1 UPDATE
ERRORS FOUND:
CODE 80070570
WINDOWS UPDATE ENCOUNTERED AN UNKNOWN ERROR

Yes -- I do have SP1 installed.

I've been doing a little reading about this online, and I've seen it suggested a chkdsk be run, so I thought I'd go ahead and do this and post my results in case this is helpful to anyone. Please assist. I'd really like to get SP2 in.

PS - also, i tried to download the standalone version directly from microsoft.com and install it, which took quite a bit longer to run, but after it was finished, I got an error there, too, which said something about the file being corrupt and unreadable...

Try install SP2 in safe mode if it also fail then:

1.Run cmd.exe with administrative previlliges (right click on cmd.exe) as admin and type:

sfc /scannow

When it finish type in cmd.exe

findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt

on your desktop appear sfcdetails.txt

2.Try reregister WU How do I reset Windows Update components?
3.Run Readiness Tool Description of the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista, for Windows Server 2008, and for Windows 7
This tool even don't help create CheckSur.log file in C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log

4.Download firegenul Altair Technologies Ltd.
place firegenul.exe in C:\Windows\System32

next again run cmd.exe with admin previlliges and type:

firegenul

it creates report from WindowsUpdate.log and is stored in C:\Windows\System32 as FireGenReport.htm

FireGenReport.htm,CheckSur.log and sfcdetails.txt pack and attache to post

My Computer

Here is the result of my sfc /scannow:

C:\Windows\system32>sfc /scannow

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.
Verification 74% complete.

Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation.

I will continue with the other steps, but I just wanted to get this posted.

My Computer

I went ahead and ran findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt

I've attempted to attach those results to this post.

My Computer

just wanted to update you on each step.

I ran the windows "fixit" tool per your step 2 -- 2.Try reregister WU

I rebooted and again tried to run SP2. Still erroring out. Proceeding to next step...

My Computer

tried step 3: 3.Run Readiness Tool

the first time i ran it, the progress bar froze about 80% of the way through the install. So I stopped it and re-booted, re-downloaded, and attempted again, and now the progress bar won't even proceed past zero %. Can get the tool to install.

my checksur log is attached.
