Hi members,

Today I discovered that Windows Update doesn't work anymore.
The prog starts up but when it scans 1 or 3 sec's I get this error code 80004002.
I looked in the help section and in several google searches, yet I didn't find adequate help.

This is what I tried;
- checking the "Service"; (Windows Update), and it looked normal, (autoatic start and running at this time).
- did a "sfc/scannow" with elevated priv.
- UAC disable/enable
- re-registered some dll's in System32. But not all of them were re-registered, from three of the six commands that I executed, where their three of them with another error code; "can't find module".

I red somewhere that doing a re-installation of Vista Home Premium (64) SP2, and I do only mean the "SP2" part, that this could cure the code problem.
From the MS-site I dwnldd the installation pack and ran it with admin priv.
After a while I get the same error code back; 80004002

Maybe re-registering all dll files could help, but I don't know how to perform this.
As a fact, I've ran out of options, does anybode know a way out of here?

I find it weird that I get a 80004002 code when I'm trying to update, and when I'm installing the SP2 pack I've got the same 80004002 code. Yet I'm not doing it via Windows Update, but from a manually dwnldd file.

Any way of help will be appreciated.

Best regards Carlo

Hi Flavius and Theog

Thanks for your quick reaction.
I've tried both options provided and it didn't help.
First I ran that FixIt prog in Default mode and afterwards in Aggressieve mode.
And the difference is, when I open WU, in the WU pane there's a sort of title bar, wich is green in normal circumstances.
Before running in aggressieve mode this was orange and now red.
Yet the error code seems the same.

Do you have any other suggestions?

1.Create log from from sfc command;in cmd.exe type:

findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt

on your desktop appear sfcdetails.txt file

2.Run Readiness Tool Description of the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista, for Windows Server 2008, and for Windows 7
This tool even don't help create CheckSur.log file in C:\Windows\Logs\CBS

3.Download firegenul Altair Technologies Ltd.
place firegenul.exe in C:\Windows\System32

next again run cmd.exe with admin previlliges and type:

firegenul

it creates report from WindowsUpdate.log and is stored in C:\Windows\System32 as FireGenReport.htm

FireGenReport.htm,CheckSur.log and sfcdetails.txt pack and attache to post

My Computer

Hi

The first thing (sfc+log) went ok.
The second method about Readiness tool, I could not install that.
I tried three times, but after a few sec's I get a message that this update doesn't apply for my system.
Yes I dwnldd the 64bit version, twice.
And the third option didn't quite went as you described. I could not find the htm-log in System32. I found it on my desktop but when I tried to upload it with my answer, I got a message just above the "add file's" pane, stated, "invalid file htm..."
At this moment I can only provide you 2 logs, or should I call it 1.5 logs??? lol
Instead I've took a copy of the WindowsUpdate-log from C:\Windows.

Goodluck

Hi

You can pack this file to *.zip format

Instead I've took a copy of the WindowsUpdate-log from C:\Windows.
Yes you can upload WindowsUpdate.log instead.

Another strange thread then Readiness Tool don' work .Instead this find in C:\Windows\Logs\CBS CBS.log file pack it and attache to post.If this file will be too big to attache here upload it on Speedy Share - upload your files here

Hi Flavius

I've put all the requested files in a zip, and I decreased the cbs log until the last ten day's.
Hopefully you have enough information, I've not, notify me and I'll upload the complete log (26mb).

Upload complete. Is so big?Of course pack it before -you can upload it on RapidShare: 1-CLICK Web hosting - Easy Filehosting too

Yes the cbs-log is 26mb, but that's not from just the last scan. That's why I trimmed it out and gave you the info from the last ten day's.
Next time I'll pack it.
From what I can make up from your answer, I belief you have enough info, right?!
