Vista Home Premium x64 Update Restart Loop

I primarily use XP, but I have Vista Premium x64 installed on another HDD... I tried booting into it tonight and every time I try to, I get a screen that says it's in step 3 of 3 of updates, it jumps from 0% to 94%, then says it's shutting down. It never starts up, I've restarted about 20 times.

reboot in safe mode (F8 when booting) then you can un-install whatever update is killing your system. You can find out which in event viewer

if you need any help with this let us know

I've tried this, safe mode still attempts to install unfinished updates though before showing you your desktop.

Do you have a backup you can restore from?

How can I even access my desktop though? There is no boot mode that skips the step 3 of updates screen on boot.

This happened to me once. It annoyed the hell out of me. I just did a system restore to a couple days before the updates were downloaded/started installing.

Wow funny thing, this happened to me again tonight after I installed a few updates (which lulz, 2/3 of which didn't install). Took me a long time to remember how to get back to the system restore menu lol.
