Blue Screen (BSOD) after Windows Updates

I'm running a Dell Inspiron with Vista Home Premium 64bit SP1 (I've never gotten the option for an SP2 download). A week ago, I ran into some issues with Blue Screen that was somehow related to Windows Update.

I posted to this forum, and got some great help which seemed to resolve the problem. Unfortunately, it's back.

Here's a history. Sorry it's so long...I really appreciate all you tech gurus out there that are willing to look at and respond to the concerns of us less gifted. :)

1. WhoCrashed analysis of the minidumps indicated that it was related to my Broadcom network driver. However, the driver is up to date (as far as I can tell from visiting the Del support site), so it must not be that--but may be related somehow.

2. Everytime I did a system restore to before the Windows Update, it worked fine. So I just hid that update (it was a Defender definition update). That seemed to fix the problem.

3. Sometime today, Windows Update did an auto-update (which I didn't notice...it just did it in the background, I guess...it was an update for Update itself).

4. Also today (apparently after the Update), I decided to try a manual Defender definition update.

5. I turned my computer off, and when I booted up later this afternoon, opened up Chrome, and back came the ugly BSOD.

6. I did a System Restore to before the definition update (but after the Windows update). still got a BSOD.

7. Did another Restore to before the Windows Update. Things are running fine now.

So it must be something with Update. But what? One possibility is that we have the Content Watch Net Nanny software installed on this laptop. It's not 64bit compatible, so it blocks many 64-bit apps. It seemed to be working fine, but maybe it conflicts with Updates?

Or maybe it's just something different...

Thank you so much to anybody who reads through this, and to anybody who attempts to respond. I really appreciate it!

could you go onto c:\windows\minidump, zip the dump file and upload it to us? we can do alot more with the file than the description.

Also tell us about your hardware.. computer, model, ram, etc

thanks on advance

Unfortunately, since I did System Restore, the minidumps from today got wiped. I found one from last week though; so that might be a start. From what I can tell, though, they all point to this driver: bcmwl664.sys.

However, I'm pretty confident that I could replicate the BSOD (by installing an Update and then rebooting and then accessing the internet). I can do that if we need to; but hopefully the old dumps shed some light.

Some specs:

Dell Insprion 1545, purchased July '09
Intel Core2Duo T6500
4 GB RAM
64-bit OS (Vista Home Premium)

Let me know if you need anything else. That's just what I know off the top of my head. Thanks.

Speak of the devil...right as I clicked "Submit" on that last post, I got a blue screen.

So here is your fresh minidump.

Booted up in Safe Mode. Looks like after the Restoring I did today, I forgot to disable Automatic Update, and it installed an update; 2 hours later (after I'd put the computer to sleep and woken it again) I got the bsod.

So Update must be involved somehow....

The same problem as in your old thread

Because updating drivers, uninstalling and hiding hotfix didn't help pernamently -probably in WU you get other hotfixes which relate to network protocol,so there are only two solutions.

1.Update BIOS and drivers for chipset

2.Try disable QoS Scheduler in network card properties (uncheck it)

2.If point 1 and 2 don't help the only way will be disable broadcom network card and buy extra network card
