| Vista Ultimate 32bit SP2 | Re: sp1 That does not look very nice. ![]() I suggest you start by running checkdisk to test if there is any problem with your hard disk. If you got a diagnostics disk with your computer, there could be a hard disk test on that one. In that case run this one too. There could be one to download from the Acer homepage. Why did you do a fresh install? Virus? |

| Vista Ultimate 32bit SP2 | Re: sp1 OK, I would suggest starting from the beginning again. First, disconnect your computer from the internet. Format (I assume you have files backup- everything incl programs on disk will be lost, but I am sure you know that). When everything is installed, go into control panel. Tick "Check for updates but let me choose ...". Then shut down, connect to internet and restart. Update drivers from manufacturer homepages, not from win update. Update with the Vista System Update & Readiness Tool. Then check the log at WINDOWS\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log. You can copy and paste into documents folder - you may have to OK a number of pop-ups, but that's fine. Check it out, it may tell you it installed some updates or failed. Have no 3rd party firewall or AW software running. Report findings back. Good luck! |

| Vista Ultimate 32bit SP2 | Re: sp1 If your installation was healthy prior to SP1, you could try uninstalling it or go back to an earlier restore point to try to avoid the pain of having to install everything from zero. Before installing SP1 again, I would run the Systems File Checker as described in this tutorial: System Files - SFC Command. I would also check that I have no serious error in the Event Log and no exclamation marks in the Device Manager. |

| vista home premium | Re: sp1 HUmm i dont know how to explain this but here it is. The sp1 file i have is an old one i had downloader a couple month ago when i had vista on my computer. Its a 434 mb file and it was working perfectly. Today before going to try your idea i just say ... hey ill try to instal it through the windows update, and guess what lol it worked, and it got instal in like 15 minutes. So what i dont understand is how did my very slow internet manage to download the sp1 in 5 minutes when it should have take 2 or 3 hours and instal it in 15 minutes when the stanalone version i had took at least an hour. Ho well i guess ill never understand computers lol. Anyway now its working and id like to thank you very much for taking of your time to try to help me. Its very kind of yours and continu your good work. |
