Help me please..
Windows asked me to update to Service Pack 2 ( I have Vista Home Basic 32 bit). After the update, I cannot start my pc anymore. I always end up in a black screen with these texts :

!! 0xc0190002 !! 3937/47219 (Mahjong.exe)

Please help me.. I tried the ff I read from other threads :

1. Started Start Up repair - did not work. Froze at some point.
2. Safe Mode - I still couldn't get in. It froze on "Loading Windows Files"

Please help me! I do not what to do :(

Anyone? Please help..
Be patient! You are not only one client, please stop bump post!

Very similar (but not the same) problem was discussed here:Error when istalling Vista sp1 : "!!0xc0190002!! 1098/71883 (GameUXLegacygdfs.dll)"

exactly to your problem:

boot Vista DVD>>WinRE>>command prompt and type

del "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Mahjong\Mahjong.exe"

Next run system normally, download manually SP2 from Microsoft Download Center (in pinned you have links) and try install SP2 in safe mode (In safe mode is better to do that than on clean boot)

How did you receive the notification to do the update to Windows Vista Service Pack 2?

  • From the Windows Update 'Explorer' window?
  • From a popup?
  • By Email?
Did you go to the linked Microsoft Website to check out information and download instructions before proceeding?

Did you create a custom Restore Point before starting the download?

Did you create a custom Restore Point before starting the download?

--------

I got the message from a pop-up (lower right of screen), so I clicked on it to continue.
Then installed the SP2. After that my laptop had problems booting up and wont even reach the page where I log in... Loading then error message comes up:

!! 0xc0190005 !!
.... (first message)
and
!! 0xc0190002 !! 3937/47219 (mahjong.exe) --- second message

I did try to use system restore by pressing F8. But it always "cannot create a restore point"

I also tried using the Safe Mode, but my screen freezes up on the "Loading Windows Files" for 15 mins. or more.

I don't have my Vista DVD with me because when I purchased the laptop, it had the Vista & other software installed already.

Any alternatives on how to go about this? I am afraid of my files being deleted. Is there still any other way I can troubleshoot this?

My Computer

Instead Vista DVD you can use Vista Recovery Disk http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/141820-create-recovery-disc.html (OPTION ONE) but of course you have to have access to another computer to do that.And...You didn't say you tried system restore from recovery partitions (you did but only in second your thread !) I start to suspect any disk issue

If suggestions from my previous post don't help again boot Vista Recovery Disk>>WinRE>>command prompt and type

chkdsk /r

if it don't help too, please diagnose your disk any advanced tool .Here you go:Bootable Hard Drive Diagnostics - Vox

Have you tried a Startup Repair? Startup Repair info here, and should be a pre-installed part of your system;

When did you do your last backup?
