We can try to view into your event viewer:

run cmd.exe with administrative previlliges (right click on cmd.exe as admin) and type:

WMIC /output:"%userprofile%\Desktop\LOG.htm" path Win32_NtLogEvent WHERE "EventType="1"" GET Logfile, Message, SourceName, EventCode,Type, TimeGenerated /FORMAT:HTABLE:"sortby=LogFile"

when you apply will appear console and do not turn off yourself, you have to wait untill it finish. When it finish on your desktop appear LOG.htm ->pack it and attache to post here -this command colect events from event viewer

Re: Net Framework 1.1 SP1 security update

Things have changed , I have used the dotnetfx_cleanup_tool which tells me I do not have 1.0 or 1.1 on my computer only 2 and 3.5 .
I have stopped windows update deleted the update and download information.
System Restore is now working and I have created a current restore point.
I have started windows update again and the update for net framework 1.1 has not appeared yet.

An update to Vista SP2 has reappeared and failed as usual with error code 8007002
I have done all that Microsoft advise but still fails on the Vista Business Asus laptop, my Dell Vista Home Premium next to it has SP2 installed no problem

And yes I have run the system readiness to as it keeps advising me

Sorry I am getting a bit grumpy over these updates!!!!!!!!!!

Remove NET Framework 1.1 by using NET Framework Cleanup Tool Aaron Stebner's WebLog : .NET Framework Cleanup Tool User's Guide

reinstall NET Framework 1.1 and then install hotfixes ->in mostly cases it work
