I think know now what happend.Because for the moment there is no TrustedInstaller service there is no TrustedInstaller account as well.Neverless even without correct owner after restarting computer WU should work now and Windows Modules Installer should work as well.Restoring oryginal permission have only meaning to prevent another potential issue due to non-oryginal permissions.WU is working now or not?If after WU is working now TrustedInstaller should be availabe in permissions according to those tutorial

Nope, Windows Updated still says it encountered an unknown error and gives te same error code.

And when I check services, Windows Module Installer is not listed....or am I checking in the wrong place?

And have you entered fix to registry?I mean this one
http://www.vistax64.com/attachments/...dinstaller.zip

Remember also to enter this fix you have to run regedit from SYSTEM accout not your own!I said about this in this post http://www.vistax64.com/1093756-post16.html

Ok, I musta have royally screwed up. Because the TrustedInstaller I downloaded from your link is a .exe. Nothing happens when I double click it. And when I try to import it, it fails because its not a .reg file.

It says "Cannot import C:TrustedInstaller.exe: The key selected is invalid"

What did I do wrong?

My brain is starting to hurt, lol

First try differentiate two things:TrustedInstaller.exe and TrustedInstaller.reg
You have to download both!Yes as you said you downloaded and placed TrustedInstaller.exe into Servicing folder, but you didn't download & import into registry TrustedInstaller.reg.In my previous post have links to download, unpack and import TrustedInstaller.reg.and in second one you have also instruction how to do that.

Re: "Windows could not search for updates code 80070424"

OMG, I'm such an idiot. I'm sorry I made this such an episode. When I downloaded the .reg file in the other thread you linked, I went to move the zip file to the other folder I had set up to make it easier for me to find, and when I did that, it said I already had a file with the same name, so I thought it was the same zip file.

Anyway, its all working properly now. I have TrustedInstaller as the owner set and now Windows Updater is working.

Thank you so much for sticking through my dumbness and for helping me out!

EDIT: Ugh, and now 196 megs of updates, lol
