    Unable to install Vista SP1

I have an HP Pavillion dv6000 laptop that has repeatedly failed to install the Windows Vista Service Pack 1 since August 2008. I have installed KB947821-v4,v5,and v6 x86 updates to resolve this issue, but the sp1 update continues to fail.

I have been on the phone with Microsoft for three days. I allowed them remote access to my laptop; they disabled firewalls, and virus and spyware protection, blocked startup programs, and they have had no luck either.

I even tried to update in safe mode, but was unable to do so as well.

I loathe Vista, and would like to use my upgrade to Windows 7 disc, but of course, the Windows 7 advisor tells me I cannot upgrade without the mythical and elusive Vista SP1 installed.

    Any suggestions?

1.Run cmd.exe with administrative previlliges (right click on cmd.exe) as admin and type:

    sfc /scannow

When it finish type in cmd.exe

    findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt

on your desktop appear sfcdetails.txt file

2.Run Readiness Tool Description of the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista, for Windows Server 2008, for Windows 7, and for Windows Server 2008 R2
even if this tool don't solve problem it create CheckSur.log file in C:\Windows\Logs\CBS folder
    3.Download firegenul Altair Technologies Ltd.
    place firegenul.exe in C:\Windows\System32

next again run cmd.exe with admin previlliges and type:

    firegenul

it creates report from WindowsUpdate.log and is saved to C:\Windows\System32 as FireGenReport.htm

    4.Again run cmd.exe and type

    systeminfo >%userprofile%\Desktop\Report.txt

above command create Report.txt file on your desktop

all files sfcdetails.txt,CheckSur.log,Report.txt,firegenReport.htm pack to ZIP format and attache to post

With service pack too? There is no universal solution for everyone.Sometimes it is caused by incompatible of any drivers, hardware or software or corrupted some components in C:\Windows\WinSxS folder.Follow to suggestions which gave you in your thread.

Re: Unable to install Vista SP1

I spent several hours with a senior programmer from Microsoft, who remotely checked all the logs and programs. He uninstalled and re-installed programs he thought were causing problems. The core issue resulted from a factory-related installed issue from the manufacturer, Hewlett Packard. Microsoft could not resolve the service pack issue, though to the tech's credit, he certainly tried. I contacted HP, re-activated my extended warranty ($100.00), and they performed the same tests. The result? A system wipe and restore (they remotely controlled this). This took 3 attempts, and several hours, but finally vista sp1, sp2 and all relevant updates installed. I then upgraded to windows 7 (very easy), and it is fantastic--like XP, but super fast. No more headaches; I like my laptop again!
