I just got a new Dell Inspiron 537. It has Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit (SP1)

My frustrations began when I tried to download and install various programs.
1) I had to go on a chat line to actually get Mozilla Firefox installed.
2) This machine will download things, but will never install. I have tried to install things like ITunes, KodakEasyShare.....no go
3) Have noticed that the Windows Update will not install the update for 2007 Microsoft Office Suite Service Pack 1. FAILS every time!
4) Error code that I get is 80200053
And when I try to install things this is the series of codes that I get:
1) Data error in ITunes64.msi : File is Broken
2) Data error in Quick time.msi. : File is Broken
3) Data error in Apple Software Update.msi : File is Broken
4) Data error in Apple ApplicationSupport.msi : File is Broken
5) Data error in Apple MobileDeviceSupport64.msi File is Broken
6) Data error in Bonjour 64.msi : File is Broken
7) Data error in MobileMe64.msi : File is Broken
8) Data error in Setup Admin.exe : File is Broken

I have run an antispyware...I was clean. I do not know what else to do. I am so frustrated it irks me to think a brand new computer would have all these gliches already! :sa:

hi seems that your windows is not in good health.. if the laptop is still new.. please do the factory restore.. and reinstall everything.. what antispyware are you using.. make sure u use trusted ones..

This is not normal. ashvin is right. A reinstall is probably the most painless cure. Just make sure you save your own stuff to an external device. Here is the website that tells you how: Dell - Support

Only format computer can you do ?If you don't have idea how to fix problem don't take part in discussion!

Many times corrupted installers are caused by third party security software although infection is also possible.

Besides in system also build-in system restore function http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/76256-system-restore-undo.html
If he don't have infectected system he can use it.

@maidenemmy

First uninstall all third party security software -firewall,antivirus,antispyware.
If it don't help scan your computer by using any LiveCD with antivirus for example Kaspersky LiveCD,Dr Web LiveCD FREE Dr.Web LiveCD To Scan and Remove Virus Without Starting Windows » Raymond.CC Blog

Kaspersky Offers FREE Rescue Disk To Clean Virus Without Booting in Windows » Raymond.CC Blog

burn one of them, boot it and scan.Prepare also logs MAIN+EXTRAS from OTL (leave ariginal settings) http://oldtimer.geekstogo.com/OTL.exe .Logs attache to post

This is a new pc!! Think the user will rather enjoy to have a freshly installed windows and running fine than already going through fixing problems or running fix programs..
Thoughts??

New PC is not equivalent he have nothing installed.Somebody here to ask for help not hear "format system".Thinking like you the best outcome is close forum because nobody need such stupid advice like you!Uninstalling 3p security software it is only few minutes -reinstall OS + programs it may take few hours...and nobody know what happend. And reinstalling OS don't guarantee it will never happens.Even if it is really infection worth to have prove becuase he may have backup data infected too...

I think I found solution:

from this link Error 80200053

read @kevin m post.Error 80200053 addressed to any issue with validation, possibly it addressed to any problem with hardware compatible . I found it,the changing network card helped another person too.

Hi,

don't know if you've resolved this or not...I've been beating my head against the wall all day on this trying to set up a new machine (Windows 2008 x64 in my case). A search has revealed that there are other people similarly afflicted but nothing I have read is remotely useful on this matter.

I was able to work around the problem, but the work around is quite stupid. I find it ridiculous that it did work.

My machine has two network cards, but I am only using one of them. The first one that I originally used would update to a certain point and then fail with this 80200053 error for the rest. Not knowing why this was happening, I went through three complete re-installations of Windows 2008 today - each time with the same result.

On the third installation, in a combination of frustration and desperation, I switched to the second network card after the initial Windows Update downloaded and installed some of the updates and then aborted with the 80200053 error. I found that the remaining stuff would successfully update after I made the switch to the other network card on my system!

I don't know if that will work for anybody else, but it worked for me.
@maidenemmy

First try to switch to the second network card,if you have only one network card you have to buy another one.If suggestion from this post will help you ignore my post 5.

First many thanks for the replies. I am sure that the problem will eventually be resolved.
It is difficult for a "dabbler" to sift through some of this, I know HOW to do a re-install but it is quite a daunting feat for the average user.
It is a desktop, not a laptop computer.....I used Superantispyvirus free off their website. It was suggested through another forum. I sought help through Itunes first, as I thought the problem mainly related to the failure of that installation. It showed no virus/malware present.
I am torn now as to what to try next.
I am NOT a pro at this by any means, so I will ask the "blonde" questions:
How do I tell if I have 2 network cards? Where would I find them? I am not feeling confident about looking inside a computer. ( I can easily see a network card on a laptop....but a desktop is something else)
Off to my real job. Will check in here in about 10 hours!!!

Your computer parameters on your manufacturer website Dell Inspiron 546 Desktop | Dell

Probably you have only one build-in ethernet adapter.

Exactly model you can read in device manager or in Microsoft System Information (Start>>Search>>msinfo32.exe).In my opinion the best way to check theory with issue with network adapter, buy any extra USB Ethernet Adapter -for example this one:
D-Link High Speed USB 2.0 Fast Ethernet Adapter

EDIT1
Try uninstall security soft -sometimes it help too

EDIT2
Read also these threads:

2)http://www.windowsbbs.com/windows-vista/85720-random-windows-program-updates-fail.html

follow suggestions from second link:reset your router back to factory defaults.I maybe solution for you too (without buying or changing network adapter).

Hi Flavius,

Only format computer can you do ?If you don't have idea how to fix problem don't take part in discussion!

I think this remark was uncalled for. Although I agree that one should first look for a solution to the problem rather than suggest a reinstall - but in this case it seemed to be the most painless and pragmatic solution.
I don`t think the OP was out for a technically brilliant solution and with the system being brand new, it is probably very easy to reinstall.
But now you are at the wheel. Will be interesting to see how you make out. Maybe you can prove me wrong.

I guess, the main reason I can see to just start over, with a clean slate is based on the age of the pc. If it is basically "new", and there's not really anything that would actually be lost by doing this, it is the simpler solution.
Something is not right obviously, but I can't see jumping through all the "hoops" to save an almost clean install.

Now, mind you, I build my own, and I know having a branded pc is different, but if something gets really messed up, i'm not going to waste my time doing all sorts of things to try to fix it. There's just too many possibilities. I just save what I need to, reformat, and start over. It just saves me a big headache. And with as little on her pc so far as it sounds, it doesn't seem worth trying to do all these other things.
Formatting or attempted fix? Pretty much the same result with both, I just wouldn't make it any more difficult than it needs to be.
