Hello,
When I try to install Vista SP2 I get this message:

Installation was not successful,
A system error prevented the Service Pack from installing. Please download and run the "Check for system update readiness" tool at Description of the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista, for Windows Server 2008, and for Windows 7.
If the "Check for system update readiness" tool doesn't fix the problem, visit the Microsoft website for more information.
I ran the System Update Readiness Tool and still getting this error.
I read in an earlier post for this same problem that you need the attached files. The CBS log is to large to attach.

Thank you for your help.

Readines Tool report you have corrupted folders

C:\Windows\WinSxS\amd64_nv_lh.inf_31bf3856ad364e35_6.0.6001.18000_none_4a8627558332bbba

C:\Windows\WinSxS\amd64_machine.inf_31bf3856ad364e35_6.0.6001.18000_none_163188bf770e4ab0

Possibly NV_AGP.SYS driver is also corrupted

I think the best way to fix it use Vista DVD (on allive system you will have trouble with permissionsand pssibly any folder which you have to fix maybe used by another processes),if you don't have Vista DVD use instead Wista Recovery Disk http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/141820-create-recovery-disc.html

1.Download attached to post FixPacks.zip file -in zip file is packed Packs folder -you have to unpack it and place directly on C: exactly as I show below:

17045d1257709937-updates-fail-load-error-packs.png

2.Boot Vista DVD (if you don't have Vista DVD instead use special recovery disk )
Choose language>>Repair Computer>>WinRE>>command prompt

and type:

robocopy C:\Packs C:\ /E /IS
del C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\*.*

3.Boot into system, again run sfc /scannow command, when it finish unstall SP2 standalone version

Flavius,

I tried what you said twice and it still quits SP2 after 92% and reverts back. Also I cannot install/update Windows Live or Silverlight, among other window addons, but I can do certain window updates.

Attached is the new 'sfcdetails.txt'. I cannot find the 'Checksur.log' anymore, even after I ran windows update again.

Thank you for your help.

It was enough only one to do that.Sometimes SFC commands and Readiness Tool can't detect at once,in one step all errors or you have any extra issues with WU which not addressed to corrupted files or registry. Now your sfcdetails.txt is OK.

I cannot find the 'Checksur.log' anymore, even after I ran windows update again.
You must generate new Readiness Tool log (CheckSur.log),again run Readines Tool and attache new CheckSur.log to post.Besides,Go to Control Panel>>Windows Update>>View update history and read last error codes and messagess.
