Error 80070424 - Windows Update

When trying to update Windows Vista Home Premium - service pack 1 - 64 Bit Operating system - 4.0GB Ram -I receive error Code 80070424 windows update encountered an unknown error. I have not been able to resolve this issue, therefore I have not been able to update my pc. Any help to resolve this issue would greatly be appreciated.
