Alright, this has been going on for awhile, and now I'm fed up. Every time I want to update windows, it comes up with this error code - 80090305 Every time I try to update windows defender, it comes up with this error code - 0x80090305 I can't update either! I've looked for solutions online -everywhere- nothing works. I checked what the Microsoft website said, but that didn't help either! I really think I should get these updates, and I'm tired of it popping up and telling me that it can't update. The computer is an Acer (I don't know the exact model, I trying to fix my friends computer and I'll be back there tomorrow.) Anyway, help would be amazing. Thank you! p.s I realize this is my first post, but you know I signed up because I really need help! I've tried everything! :(

It's not any repair tool!it's only empty spot (advertisement) of this soft.About anything you ask, they declare that they know how to fix, although this is not true.
They just look naive to earn money -nothing more .

1.First Check in Control Panel>>Internet Options>>Advanced

SP.png

And make sure protocols SSL 2.0 and SSL 3.0 are checked (image), if not you have to fix this problem +restart

2)This error would relate to problem with internet connections too

You may encounter temporary connection-related errors when you use Windows Update or Microsoft Update to install updates

If it don't help too uninstall completely 3p security software and reset router to faktory defaults
3)Scan your computer by using Windows LiveOne Care Windows Live OneCare safety scanner: Free online tool for PC health and safety

@Flavius Thank you for pointing that out - I did realize that it was a scam, but thank you for being kind enough to point it out. 1) I changed the internet options, only one was unchecked - rebooted - nothing changed. 2) She is hooked up by wireless, but I did try connecting her on a lan - no difference. 3) I did many checks for problem (avira, ad-aware, spybot, onecare) Found some stuff, nothing to get hyped about. I did uninstall to check, but it still made no difference. :( Thanks!

hi, sorry for the late reply!

I reset and disabled add-ons in internet explorer - no difference.
I also used the repair tool - no difference.

Now it get interesting when I read the website you linked. I have the same problem - no windows updates and itunes wont connect. I didn't realize they were connected.
It says the solution is to uninstall the service packs. Now its referring to XP, but I think its worth a try, no?
I tried to uninstall the service pack, first I couldn' find it, but then I went into safe mode to look for it. I tried to uninstall it from programs [update section], but it came up with the error that it couldnt complete.
Sooo then, i went to the microsoft site for help,
How to uninstall Windows Vista service packs as a troubleshooting step
I tried everything but the restore. The restore files dont go that far back.
When I tried the command prompt route, it could not find the path specified. I'm not sure where to tell it to look.
+ for the key, i looked for it, but I could only get to Lsa, i could not find security packages
What are your thoughts?

&thank you so much - you are best amount of help i have gotten so far!

You may not have ability to uninstall SP2 i.e if you ever time used cmpcln tool or your install disk is already integrated with SP2.

Check below things:

1.Reset HOSTS file to defaults How do I reset the hosts file back to the default?
2. Run "MS Fix It" from this site:Error message when you check for updates on the Windows Update site: "0X800A138F: There are no updates available at this time"
3.Check also this thread:Got error 80072f78, 80090305 or 8009033f while downloading Windows update 80072F78

If none of suggestions help run Readiness Tool Description of the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista, for Windows Server 2008, for Windows 7, and for Windows Server 2008 R2

when it finish go to C:\Windows\Logs\CBS folder and find CheckSur.log file -attache this file to post.
