Upgrade from Vista to 7 Help

Hi,

I am new to the forum and would very much appreciate some advice and help with installing 7 upgrade on my HP computer that currently has Vista and has crashed with the following indications:
1. Startup Repair cannot repair this computer automatically.
2. Problem signature - 01 - Auto Failover

This occurred after uploading some photos to my computer, which seems to be a common problem that causes this.

After reading some of the threads regarding this on this forum, this seems to be the only and best option since I Do Not have a Vista disk - did not come with one.

Being a novice at these things, may I ask a few questions:
1. First, can this be done?
2. Does the 7 disk walk you through the re-formatting of the hard drive as it installs?
3. Will I lose "My Documents" and, if so, is there ANY WAY to save them?

ANY HELP you could give this novice  would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!

MIKEYMIKE

Do you currently have a Windows 7 licence and disk? When a computer does not come with a disk, it has the disk built into the computer. This means that we can probably re-install without needing a disk. We can also probably get your documents and data backed up. This would mean that you would not need a Windows 7 disk. However, if you would like Windows 7, by all means, and we can help you install it.

Here is how I see it:

  • We save all of your documents. We use something called Ubuntu to do so. Don't worry about this yet. All will be revealed!
  • We then guide you through the re-installation of Vista WITHOUT a CD, or you provide a Windows 7 DVD, and we will guide you through installing that.
The choice is completely yours.

Thanks!

Richard
