Every few months I try to fix this issue. I've tried it all, manual SP2 updating, the "upgrade" re-install disk route (fails after many hours), Update agent. Now I see there is the Readiness tool. I used it and it gave me some info which is nice. Maybe this time will be the charm and someone will help me fix my registry issues.

Hello, and welcome to the Vista Forums!

I will be your Windows Update Error Expert, and will help you to hopefully fix this issue once and for all. Please stick with me until the end of the fix.

The error that you have received is not exactly easy to fix, but neither is it impossible. In theory at least, there is a specific fix for your problem, which I do know, but sometimes it takes a little bit of fiddling to get it to work.

Anyway, I could guess the fix, and almost certainly get it right, but I am going to check, just in case.

Do you have IE 9 installed? If you do not have, don't try to install it. If you do, don't try to uninstall it. Please just tell me if you do or don't. :)

Now please copy the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log file to your Desktop, right click on it > Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder, and upload the new file which is created on your Desktop here. If necessary, you can read about how to upload that file here: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/289032-screenshots-files-upload-post-vista-forums.html

Thanks a lot!

Richard
