I am running Vista Home Premium, but having trouble with some updates. Just used Reimage repair this morning to try and correct things. After taking about three quarters of an hour repairing the computer it could not upload the updates itself and told me to do it manually which I did. Just over 100 updates loaded OK, but about 8 did not and now no further updates will load either. The updates that will not upload give various Error Codes:-

80073712
8E5E0147
80070490

I found the System Update Readiness Tool for 32bit Vista and downloaded that (twice) from Microsoft's site as it said it corrected such update problems. However when I tried to run that it produced the following error code:-

0x8007000d

I have just run Reimage again to check and it says there are no problems on my computer!

Keep the answers simple as I am merely a computer user not a techie.

Many Thanks.

Dave

Thanks both, I have tried some of the methods, but no real success. I tried the Fix WU Utility in Whither's post and strange to say it resulted in Microsoft's System Update Readiness Tool that was giving an 0x8007000d code now loading!

The Microsoft utility spent about half an hour thrashing around as though it was defragmenting the hard disk and then one update loaded, but all the others then failed again!

I had just defragmented the hard disk before I tried this utility and afterwards I used the defragmenter again, but it then took about half an hour or more sorting out the scrambled hard disk again after the System Update Readiness tool had run!

Its a bit curious that you have to use a third party fix in order to load Microsoft's own supposed fix which then does not fix things! I have also used Microsoft's Fix It utility which supposedly corrects update problems, again with no luck.

In the past I would have just put in the Windows CD which would have fixed bad system files and picked up all my files whilst doing so without setting everything back to square one. However we now get the OS preinstalled with computers and though CD's only cost pence to make we no longer get the proper Windows version on disk we have paid for, but simply an OEM "repair" disk as a substitute, which must cost as much to make as giving you the proper Windows disk in the first place?

I am not too happy about using the Dell disk just as I used to use the proper Window's disk after reading the following link:-

How To Restore or Reinstall Microsoft Windows on a Dell Computer | Dell

I guess if needed I will get a computer programmer friend to try and sort it if I need to go back to the start again.

PS. I should add that apart from not loading those updates the computer is working perfectly and pretty fast.

Are you still getting all of the same error messages?

Yes have just tried now and still getting error messages, for instance Code 8E5E0147, though as you can see from the attachment the System Update Readiness Tool is supposed to have loaded.

Try manually updating one at a time. I had a similar problem and it was found to be some updates had to be done in order.

Thanks both, guess I will have to get my friend to sort it out for me after reading your posts.

However would this be a one off cure so updates would install normally in future rather than have to install manually?

Once your updates are installed then all should work fine, no need to manually update.
