Solved Internet explorer?

Hi , I've just joined today and I'm hoping you will be-able to sort this confusion I have with IE.

My laptop is a Toshia Vista Home Premium 32bit 2007
A few days ago I had to put in my recovery cd to bring my laptop back to Factory setting. This meant my Internet Explorer has reverted back to 6.
You can imagine I've had numerous (over 250 so far) Windows updates to install and they will keep on coming until my laptop is upto date.

My question is -I'm wanting to download IE 8, but I cannot find if this will run on a 32bit.
Any advise would be helpful
Thank you

Hello. you really should use the IE 9 .. as that is the latest. but Microsoft has been doing a quiet update of IE to the 9 whether users want it or not.. Have you ever used Firefox instead of IE ?

Thank you Yard Dog for replying.
I haven't had the courage to try and swap things over because it always seem to make things worse. As I'm a quiet elderly person I'd rather stick to what I know until I get more settled in the workings of a computer.
There was a time 6 months ago though, when I actually switch to google home page - lol " (wow how daring of me)

I have downloaded IE 9 and its made a vast difference already (smile) My laptop is much quicker to use.

Thank you again for taking time out to answer my question

On your updating.. don't update a whole lot at once. do 4 or 5 at a time til you get all installed, and remember to restart computer once in a while for updates to take effect. It is a long process, but in the end, your computer will be up to date.
