I'm not able to help you as I've never done this before, plus its too long to read.
I'll just bump this up for you.

Hi digdug,
Sorry, I thought I'd replied to this.
That doesn't look goodHave you got a Vista installation DVD? If so, I think our best bet is to try a repair install:
Repair Install For Vista
Tom
That i do not have anyway on telling me how to get one Tom?
Also is it free or gonna cost money?
Ohh and thanks either way for the help!![]()

Hi digdug,
SureIt's completely free, and legal because you have a product key, so let's get going:
http://msft-dnl.digitalrivercontent..../X14-63452.exe
http://msft-dnl.digitalrivercontent....sta32/boot.wim
http://msft-dnl.digitalrivercontent....32/install.wim
Download all of those files to your your root folder (usually C:\). It's quite a big download (~2GB if I remember correctly), so be warned.
Run the file X14-63452.exe, this will extract the files to the folder C:\Vista.
Then download this file: cdimage.EXE and also save this to your root folder (the same as before).
Then open up command prompt and run this command:
cdimage.exe -lVISTA_EN_DVD -m -u2 -bC:\Vista\boot\etfsboot.com C:\Vista\ C:\Vistax86.iso
This will create your Vista ISOWe have to strip a file from the ISO to allow you to install Home Premium from an Ultimate disc. To do this, download this file:
http://code.kliu.org/misc/winisoutil...al_utility.zip
Extract the file eicfg_remover.exe and run it by double clicking on it. It will ask you to open a file, navigate to, and select, the ISO file that we just made: C:\Vistax86.iso. After processing the file, it will save a new copy of the ISO. I can't remember what this file is called, the program might say the file name, if you are unsure just ask.
Then burn the newly created ISO to a blank DVD using this tutorial: Burning ISO Images with ImgBurn - Guides - NeoSmart Technologies Wiki
Make sure you burn it with a low write speed!
If you don't have a blank DVD and want to use a USB instead, let me know.
Once you've done that, use this tutorial to do a repair install: Repair Install For Vista

Thanks Tom,
Honestly I thought you were gonna point me to a way to buy the disc but im downloading the parts now.
Gonna take a bit but I should have a blank disc somewhere if not i'll post here with an update to ask about the usb part.
Just curious will this be a full reinstall eg will my files be erased or no
just want to know to make backups if need be.
Thanks again,
Digdug
Its an update install, all of your files will be saved in a folder called "Windows.old", but its still highly recommended to save a backup.
Hey Tom,
Just an update when I try to do the command in the command window it doesn't work I get an error.
I attached a pic to explain what I mean.
PS you weren't kidding about the download size :P

Sorry for the late reply mate, I was at a festival for the weekend - well, until it was cancelled
I would recommend making backups anyway, you never know when things might go wrong!
Thanks for the screenshot, I know where I went wrong. Try this command:
C:\cdimage.exe -lVISTA_EN_DVD -m -u2 -bC:\Vista\boot\etfsboot.com C:\Vista\ C:\Vistax86.iso
Should do the trick
lol, yeah, it's quite a hefty download!
Tom
