Windows Update Page Problem

Hi,all

I have a problem, when I try to open the Windows Update page it tells me "This Page Failed To Load".
I recently did a clean install back to factory new settings from the discs that came with my computer.I did the service pack 2 update but now the update page will not load to get the updates from Microsoft.Any ideas on what might be the cause,And i already did a search but came up empty.

Thanks for any help.

The page started to give the message after it told me I needed an update to get updates.

Hi Gunfighter,

Let's see where a SFC scan gets us :)

SFC Scan

  1. Open your start menu and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    sfc /scannow

Wait for this to finish before you continue

    findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt

    start notepad.exe %userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt

  4. This will open a text file with the results of the scan. Please Copy (Ctrl + C) and Paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of this into your next post.

Can you make a MGADiag report for us please? The tool can be found here:

http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012

Download it, launch it, then press continue. When it finishes, press Copy. Then paste this into your next post for us please :)

Tom

Hi Gunfighter,

That's great, both of those logs are fine :)

Time for a few more questions:

1. Have you ever had any problem with malware (viruses, adware etc.)? Sometimes malware will mess with Windows Update to prevent Windows from patching things that it relies on.
2. Do you have Windows Blinds installed? If you don't know what this is, then the answer is no :)

In case you didn't know, Windows Update relies on Internet Explorer for it to function as it loads the Windows Update page using IE. This is why it isn't possible to uninstall IE. So we're looking at a problem in IE :)

I would like you to try disabling your anti-virus and seeing if that has any effect.

Tom

Great :) Let me know how the MSE scan goes. If we don't get any leads with this, we'll have to go one step deeper.

Thanks for your kind words, they make helping out here really rewarding and well worth the time it takes.

The XPS 13 Ultrabook is a really nice notebook, good choice!
