No updates. Is a brick in the LCD a solution?

I started this project in october 2011 and my grandmother handed me this laptop and said if you can fix it its yours. When i turned it on i saw a multitude of problems. The battery life is 0% at all times and it even says 'plugged in not charging' the date was was set july 2009. The pc performance was terrible and i recived a notification that the version of windows on a computer that was bought from best buy was unathorised and i need to validate the software. I sat at the validation window for about an hour with the green circle still running. so i gave up on that. i updated all the computers software (Browsers applications ect.), fixed the date and time, got rid of McFee (which was set to expire in 2010 and got all glitchy when i reset the date). But the problem with windows still stood and i could not receive updates so instaled a version of ubuntu linix that was compatible with my current hardware. It requred a rebootso i restarted the computer and waited and waited and waited. slept on it and woke up and still saw a black screen. so i restarted it. and every time i started up the computer it was a black screen. so i didn't touch it for months and months and months and finaly for some reason the computer boot up with the option of picking Ubuntu but the problem with windows still stands and now a message saying an unauthorized change has been made to windows and i click for online support and i get a never ending validations screen. The last date that updates were installed on it was June 26 2010.

And now im wondering if there is anything i can do to prove that my version of windows is legit or should i just switch over to linix

Is there a COA sticker on the machine's case? If so, for what version and edition of Windows is it valid?

It seems to be a dual-boot with Ubuntu? - do you intend to do anything with Ubuntu or not?

To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool
(download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.
- **in your own thread**, please
Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

It could be the residues of the Grub(?) boot manager causing problems.
please post the MGADiag report - it will give us some clues.

You should also install the latest Service Pack - it could be that your new AV is not compatible with earlier SP levels (Avast, BitDefender, Norton, and others have this problem)
