Vista SP2 x86 Failing

Hello everyone.
I'm trying to update my old Vista Hard Drive to Service Pack 2. It's currently on SP1.
When I go to install SP2 it says; before it even starts installing, that it's failed.

I've googled, and people say to use the Windows Update, so I try this, but it always says I may need to restart my computer. I've rebooted a good 5/6 times now and no different.

So another tip for this issue is to apparently install Windows Update System Readiness (Something like that)
However; when I go to install this, the install fails before it even starts and gives me an error.

So I've decided, sack it, I'll install a trial of Windows 7 for now. But as I go to install from the ISO burned DVD I made, it fails saying it can't create an install space.

I then try using the Mounted ISO and that does the same.

It's like my Windows Vista SP1 has locked down everything to do with OS Updates/etc.
Another out-there tip was to delete the vLite from Regedit; but there's nothing of the sort there!

Why is my computer done goufed?
Please help.

Problem is, you don't say what the error message is in most of these cases.

Have you tried disabling your anti-virus and all it's security features (some have firewalls).
