Hello joeschmo and welcome to the forums

SFC Scan

  1. Open your start menu and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    sfc /scannow

Wait for this to finish before you continue

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt

  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.

Thanks Tom 982.
When I saw Command Prompt I right clicked and chose "Run as Administrator" and then received the following:

"Problem with Shortcut: The item 'cmd.exe' that this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved, so this shortcut will no longer work properly. Do you want to delete this shortcut"

So I used common sense and just typed in cmd.exe - that worked.

I tried twice to attach the cbs file, but I receive the following: "Your submission could not be processed because a security token was missing."

I suppose I could copy and paste the file but it is huge = 20.6MB

Hi joeschmo,

Sorry for the late reply, I was at Creamfields last weekend. Let's try this:

MGADiag

I would like you to make a MGADiag report for us please.

  1. Download MGADiag (by Microsoft) from the link found below:

    http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012

  2. Run the tool by double clicking on the file. Press Continue when prompted
  3. When it has finished, press Copy then paste this into your next post

Sorry for the late reply! I thought I had replied to this. Let's try running that batch file again, but this time as an administrator:

Batch File

  1. Click the Start button
    StartButton_16x16.gif
, click All Programs, click Accessories and then click Notepad
  2. Copy (Ctrl+C) all of the text in the following box and paste (Ctrl+V) it into Notepad

    Code:
    taskkill /f /im wuapp.exe

if not exist %SYSTEMDRIVE%\tom982 mkdir %SYSTEMDRIVE%\tom982

    icacls C:\Windows\system32\wuapp.exe /save %SYSTEMDRIVE%\tom982\wuapp

    takeown /f C:\Windows\system32\wuapp.exe

    icacls C:\Windows\system32\wuapp.exe /grant administrators:F

    ren C:\Windows\system32\wuapp.exe *.bak

    copy C:\Windows\WinSxS\amd64_microsoft-windows-w..pdateclient-activex_31bf3856ad364e35_7.6.7600.256_none_66110e7f0b087d75\wuapp.exe C:\Windows\system32\wuapp.exe

    icacls C:\Windows\system32 /restore %SYSTEMDRIVE%\tom982\wuapp

    sfc /scannow

    copy %SYSTEMROOT%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log %USERPROFILE%\Desktop\CBS.txt

    start notepad.exe %USERPROFILE%\Desktop\CBS.txt

  3. Go to File > Save As... and save it to your Desktop named fix.bat. Make sure you change the Save as type to All Files (*.*)
  4. Locate fix.bat on your Desktop and right-click on it, click Run as administrator

This will create a file on your Desktop, please upload this to Mediafire like before :)
