win. update

I have been trying to install KB2656374 security update sp2 it keeps failing.after scouring the net I found the Turn win. features on/off blank which is why updates won,t install.Ran sfc/scannow found "some corrupt files could not be fixed" went to c:win.\logs\cbs\chksur found five packages forKB 2656374 as "missing" so I could not fix them as they are not in registry.Any advice as to where I go from here would be appreciated.I have tried many "fixes" recommended thru google none have worked.I have vista basic 32 bit 6.00 with sp1 and sp2.

Could you copy and paste the contents of the CheckSUR log please? It is found in the following location:

C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log

I get access denied even though I have full conrol ticked in its properties

Okay, let's try another way then:

Command Prompt

1. Open your start menu and in the search box, type Command Prompt
2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each
   
   start notepad.exe %WinDir%\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log
   
   
4. Copy and paste the text that opens in the Notepad window please.

what file association do I use to open

log files are shown as text doc. to open with notepad but I still get the error message

I reaffirmed note pad file association now I get "could not find file syntax or wording error" tried 3 times same result

That's strange, they should open with notepad by default. Could you follow these instructions to attach the file to your next post please?

C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log

tried that went to properties confirmed me administrator as owner full control tried open again told I dont have permission yet to open CBS file I confirmed I am admin. and it let me in there

clicked on paperclip browse upload

managed to access file by disabling user control however tried to upload screeshot got win. exp cannot open this page am still persevering

Yes but how do I copy the file from Sendspace and attach it when upload in manage attachments says file too large it is presently sitting in sendspace.I apologise if I appear thick but I am a novice at this sort of thing
